HTTP 451, an error code that appears when the request cannot be satisfied for legal reasons, is a direct reference to Fahrenheit 451.
Beryllium’s[1] toxicity is on par with famously toxic elements like mercury and arsenic. It is chemically similar to magnesium, allowing it to displace magnesium from enzymes, causing them to malfunction. But wait, it gets even worse. The body has no way to remove beryllium once it’s been introduced.
So yeah, don’t go eating any emeralds.

…now I feel bad for gifting Abigail emeralds in Stardew. If you know, you know.
I just tried giving her one and yeah she says she’s going to eat it
I am yet unsure what biological function precious stones have in Abigail’s body, but given that she doesn’t suffer adverse effects from consuming quartz, it’s not too far fetched to assume that consuming beryl would also be harmless to her[1]
That, or in the Stardewverse, emeralds are themselves a magical antidote. Real-life alchemists thought so.[2]
EDIT I did some more research and apparently it would likely survive the digestive tract, which means Abigail is literally shitting rocks unless she’s built different and can break down beryl in her gastrointestinal tract and also somehow not get poisoned ↩︎
if you were to check out my worldbuilding thread you would also see that, in my verse, emerald cores are good at protecting against and reversing adverse magical effects so that’s kind of funny ↩︎
If no enzyme then why enzyme shaped?
awh, that’s my evening meal RUINED
thanks a lot
I bet he only said that so he could have them all for his greedy self.
Vratien can have a little a emerald, as a treat
yipee!!!

I have no clue how I stumbled upon this thread but oh well.
The Golden Gate Bridge isn’t called that because of its color. The body of water it crosses (where the Pacific feeds into the SF bay) is called the Golden Gate. I have a friend from SF who told me this fact a year ago and it honestly makes so much sense
Apparently it’s not a hugely known fact because they always heard “why is it called the Golden Gate bridge if it’s orange??” which is fair because it’s confusing without historical context.
Also it was initially going to be painted alternate black and yellow stripes, but the builder settled for the orange because he thought it would match the landscape better.
