so one side is angry that the other side hasn’t spoiled the movie for themselves by reading the original book.

Okay, granted, nobody should be expected to know any media source that old. It’s just an unreasonable expectation. But on the other hand, stating that an Ancient Greek epic is somehow American, and that you shouldn’t know it because you’re not American is equally dumb.
Also, every reply on Twitter on this is coming off as condescending. Why the hell are people attacking one another’s nationality over this?
Edit: Nevermind, I just remembered what platform I’m talking about, and the average understanding and tolerance of the users on it.

The main reason I see that people act like they do is that The Odyssey IS quite famous for something thousands of years old, and it’s taught in quite a few schools as mandatory reading for some.
Still wish people weren’t so stupid about it though. Yeah, some people not knowing what The Odyssey is can be funny to think about, but you don’t have to be mean.
Calling it now: Tom Holland is playing Telemachus.
