i think you summed up a lot of things wrong with the current AO community with the “negative cycle” thing
I understand how vetex feels when people berate him to do things and complain about the game so frequently. I’ve obviously never had such a big game as AO, but other things I’ve created publicly have received similar treatment before and it bothered me a lot (to the point where i essentially just told those people to fuck off and that i’ll do whatever i want)
the difference is vetex is the head developer of a huge roblox game with donations, patreon, and other monetization made around it which makes him a lot of money (you could also count premium payouts)
when you’re allowing people to give you money for the thing you’re making, it’s not just “i do what i want” anymore, you have to listen to your community atleast occassionally. Just in general I think that’d benefit the game and community a lot because vetex being a brick wall only feeds the negativity in the community, despite it being entirely understandable
and as for the community, there’s no way to control so many people and what they do, but a lot of people need to understand that getting so angry to such an absurd degree over any of this helps nobody (and especially not themselves). People are generally much more receptive to calmer, actually constructive criticism and are also generally the exact opposite when it comes to rage-filled screaming and insults disguised as criticism. If someone isn’t very receptive to nice calm feedback, there is no reason to think theyd be more receptive to an entire discord server harrassing them, especially over what to them is an inconsequential change
I hope everyone can come out of this better instead of continuing to be bitter towards eachother like it has been for seemingly quite a while, though i doubt much will change after this
edit: im also gonna clarify that i know tech and vetex himself has likely said they do listen to feedback and what people say a bunch, but a lot of the community doesnt see it like that and thats the pov im referring to for a lot of this post
Yeah he was a big figure in AR, might still be idk I haven’t touched that community in years. Shanks was the leader of the Crystal Pirates (later reformed to Stormcloud Pirates).
look I get that people can suck big dick and be super obnoxious but I mean they are literally giving you money in this scenario so you’d assume you’d be more… cordial? I dunno man I found this comment in particular to shock me

Clan building is cool but its only beneficial to a tiny fraction of the community that alot of the remaining part of the community holds alot of resentment towards already.
Hecate essence was a complete and utter disaster. We’ve been over this enough times that we all already know all the issues with it.
Knowing just how poorly optimized the game is, I’m completely baffled that vetex is attempting to readd dynamic NPCs in any capacity.
He’s gone out of his way since WoM ended to put “no dynamic NPCs” in the banned suggestions list.
The name changes were 100% pointless, it could have just as easily been stated “hey this is the standard classification system used by the grand navy” or something like that and then it makes sense and everybody would have agreed.
This drama NEVER had to happen.
At this point it straight up feels like vetex is intentionally trying to piss off the community as much as he can for no conceivable reason.
He has:
1: Catered to a part of the community that most of the community hates.
2: Added a long asked for feature in what I’d argue is one of the worst possible ways and has refused to do ANYTHING about it despite immense backlash.
3: Worked on completely pointless features that will exclusively make the game more laggy and add literally nothing.
4: Changed completely pointless things that had no reason to be changed.
