I wanna make a water mage character, but sadly water magic currently faces synergy challenges in the meta when going as a water mage. Water is a great magic to use when you’re an ice or snow mage, but water magic itself is weakened greatly by both magics in the end when the target is frozen. In addition to my own ideas demonstrated below, I’d also like to know people’s ideas on how water magic can be improved in the coming 1.12 balance patch.
My current idea correlates with the idea in the balance patch notes regarding lightning magic, where every attack with lightning magic inflicts stacking levels of the charged statis effect and then paralyzes the target after five stacks. I have 2 different ideas regarding this.
Idea 1: When the target is soaked, lightning magic removes the soaked effect, then inflicts scolded and gains an additional stack of charged. Additionally, when the target is inflicted with charged, water magic inflicts Electricuted, which deals bonus dmg scaling with how many stacks the charged effect had. Think of it like an extra attack. This effect could also activate if a charged target walks into a water puddle or falls in the ocean. I’m open to suggestions for alternative names for the Electricuted effect.
Idea 2: When the target is soaked, lightning magic removes soaked and inflicts the scolded effect. Additionally, when the target has the charged effect, water magic deals 15% more dmg and also inflicts paralyzed if the target has at least 3 stacks of charged.
water does not need a buff at all. good interactions, very solid stats even post-nerf for what’s supposed to be a synergy-based magic, and the potential to cause hard cc with 3 different elements, 4 if the scald petrify changes from the v1.12 doc go through
Bruh I dont see any good reason why it needs to have this frfr, a single short paralyze with slight damage increase synergy effect from lightning is already enough, no need to make it complicated
Synergies arent supposed to be that effective, giving water/lightning synergy a buff like increased damage per stack would mean the rest of the synergies will have to adjust and considering if this does happen, mages would stay in the meta and even higher which defeats the point of the pvp balances of nerfing mages
From these responses, I’m guessing you guys have actually seen mages who have water as their main magic and were actually pretty strong in AO? I play the game quite a bit and have yet to see water magic users, so from my perspective there seems to be an issue atm.
