We need to come up with another name for spirit weapons

was working on another post, and I’ve started to notice how obnoxious talking about “Spirit”/“Vitality” is; especially when comparing it to weapons (unarguably the most similar class to it). Semi-long, pseudo-useless rant so…

Edit

Think its safe to say we decided on Spirit Relics, or just Relics for short. As for the "Weapons" tab in the inventory, i say we rename it to "Tools", and rename the "Tools/Potions" into Utility.
TLDR

it’s a separate class, make it sound different and give its item a separate name; So far I haven’t found one I like, so please discuss one that feels right with what we know about spirit weapons; I’ve gone with Spirit Artifacts for Vitalities/Spirits equiptment name.

Anyways, Take these sentences for example:

  • When using spirit or normal weapons;

  • Spirit builds use spirit weapons, Weapons builds use normal weapons.

That requirement to say “Normal weapon” when referring to weapons excluding spirit weapons gets annoying, and is really limiting in naming if Knight were to ever get an exclusive weapon.

Point is, there isn’t a way to quickly tell if a person is talking about the Vitality/Spirit classes tools or Weapon classes tools (or both); but they’re two different classes, so I think it’s fair to give Vitalities/Spirits tools a different name compared to Weapons tools.

I don’t really have any ideas for this, so far I’ve been using Spirit Artifacts, but that feels kinda wrong. In any case, the two examples I provided would be easier to articulate:

  • When using Artifacts or Weapons;

  • Spirit builds use Artifacts, Weapons builds use Weapons.

And when referring to hybrid weapons it makes it even easier, again Spirit weapon sounds like a knight exclusive when we’ve got Strength/Colossal Weapons and Arcanium weapons.

Besides, our examples of spirit weapons kind-of fail at being a weapon:

we got a necklace with a bird on it;
a staff;
and a (presumably) yellow glowing orb.

If you don’t have magic, you can still use the swords or bows, but only the staff of night might be usable like an actual weapon, but that’s probably an item you don’t want to swing around and break.

name it a catalyst and call it a day
because thats what it is, a catalyst for utilizing spirit energy

Catalyst is used for brewing items

i was going t say something felt wrong with catalyst and i think this is it…

potion are forgettable sometimes.

i was thinking of something like spirit medium but i can’t find the right word it’s annoying me

I still haven’t grinded brewing xp and likely never will

i give up, i tried looking into synonyms for amplifier, booster, catalyst, transmitter, etc, but we do really need a better word for it honestly

Honestly, i think we just need a word for an old object if we cant find a transmutation word. its already got the word “spirit” tied to it, as a means to define its power.

maybe Spirit Relics?

Conduit?

Relic or Artifact feel like the way to go.

Relic seems like the best general catch-all term that fits the Greek mythology theme

Can’t use Artifact because of deckhands

and another item name is stolen by a feature added earlier.

frankly I think the deckhand items should be called “Trinkets”

A rusty fish hook does not deserve to be called an “artifact.” Artifacts usually have some sort of historical or monetary value. A rusty fish hook is neither of these things

yea, relic or talisman or something would work

yeah but most talismans are worn items (or engraved). depending on how the Aether-Spirit-item is designed, or any future items; i wouldn’t close the possibility of a floating item.

if we dont get any, then talisman would also work. but god forbid my ancient diety items can levitate around me.

i was never against any levitating items, and a talisman can be pretty much any kind of object, not just worn accessories
