Bombs are weapons focusing on a high-risk-high-reward playstyle. Also they’re funny.

All attacks from bombs inflict the Charred status effect and have enhanced terrain destruction properties.

Note that all attacks from Bombs are able to damage the user, so the player should be warned to read the descriptions of each move carefully.

Here are their moves with their minimum point costs:

[ Basic Attack ] Bomb Toss

The user lights the bomb they are holding, then throws it in the aimed direction, exploding on contact with terrain or enemies in a large radius. The user then slowly takes out another bomb. This move has a breif initial wind-up and endlag, so it isn’t nearly as fast as other M1s. Oh, and be careful, the bomb explosions can damage the user if they hit themselves with it.

[ 20 Points ] Tempered Throw

Use the move to take out an enlarged bomb that starts counting down from 5 seconds. Use the move again to throw the bomb.

The player can still move while holding the bomb, though they can’t use other attacks.

If the user lets the bomb count down to 0, it will blow up and deal damage to just themselves.

The closer the bomb is to exploding when thrown, the greater the damage and explosion radius.

The higher the user’s Attack Speed, the faster the countdown.

[ 50 Points ] Self Destruct

Works similar to a self Explosion spell. When used, there is a very quick animation of the user quickly charging a ton of energy at once into themselves and the held bomb, and then quickly exploding in a large radius, dealing heavy damage to themselves and targets in range. This is best used when you have a decent HP lead over your opponent and want to end the fight quickly.

As a safety measure, the key for the move must be held down until the end of the charging animation for the move to activate. Due to this, the move can’t be charged.

[ 80 Points ] Mass Blast

While charging the move, the user stocks 1 to 10 bombs in their hands, depending on how long they charge for. Those bombs are then thrown in a spread that gets wider and deals more damage the more bombs that are thrown at once.

If the user is hit while charging the move, the bombs held explode on them, dealing damage proportional to the number of bombs they had charged up.

With base Attack Speed, it takes 3.5 seconds to charge to 10 bombs.

Unlike other moves, Mass Blast can be charged while still moving.

Mass Blast may only be charged up to 3 bombs when outside of combat.

During this move, the bombs flash red to indicate that they can be hit.

Bomb-type weapons ideas:

(Poor Quality) Rusty Bombs

Appearance: The item icon is a stock-standard pile of bombs, with rough, slightly rusted iron casings and exaggerated rope fuses. When equipped, represented as a bomb pouch tied to the player’s hip. When held, one bomb is held in the user’s right palm.

Description: Warning: This weapon can hurt its user. A pile of old mortar bombs with large fuses. Likely decades old, but might still be usable, even without standard artillery.

(Average Quality) Mortar Bombs

Appearance: Item icon is very similar to the Rusty Bombs, but with smooth iron shells with no visible rust. When equipped, represented as a bomb pouch tied to the player’s hip. When held, one bomb is held in the user’s right palm.

Description: Warning: This weapon can hurt its user. A bundle of bombs. Normally used as ammo in cannons, but can be lit and thrown by hand and be just as effective.

  • | x1 Damage
  • | x1 Size
  • | x1 Speed

(Average Quality) Dynamite

Yes I know dynamite wasn’t invented yet when the game’s story takes place, just let me have my fun

Appearance: Item icon would be three bright red sticks of dynamite bundled together with a leather strap. When equipped, the dynamite bundle would appear strapped to the player’s hip. Ahen held, they would hold one stick of dynamite in their right hand.

Description: Warning: This weapon can hurt its user. Lethal sticks packed with explosive potential, often only outclassed by entire barrels of gunpowder.

  • | x0.65 Speed

sounds funny
though rather limiting in weapon skill compatibility, but thats the case for all ranged weapons anyway

Meanwhile melee being able to eat from each others plates constantly

funny but we’re getting a potion that does this, feels redundant to make it an entire weapon type as well

A lot of work went into this, and I appreciate that greatly, but there’s kind of potions for this already. Plus, this could be really, really, really unbalanced if implemented badly.

All around a pretty awesome weapon type. Could see some real wild skills coming out for this like planting bombs as landmines, setting up remotely triggered bombs (magic energy can do pretty much anything), a grab move where you plant bombs on someone and kick them away, a mobility move where you blow up a bomb under yourself dealing a little damage to get a huge vertical leap, and more!

Some of the mechanics of the example skills are a little questionable balance-wise but still a great suggestion!

Lamp oil weapon type next, trust

Also imagine how crazy arcanium bombs could be

Yeah I definitely won’t deny that the balancing is funky, hence why I avoided numbers for the moves

Dynamite might need a nerf but its fate should be thrown to the balance team if the time ever comes

Okay on a more specific note, I’m guessing that Attack Speed speeding up Tempered Throw and Mass Blast seems a bit OP, though what do yall think

what warrior needs to mimic a portion of mage power

boom self explosion boom cannon spell 150%
