Weather Resistance Jewels

Reasoning

Dark Sea weather events can be particularly punishing. Getting struck by lightning while in a close fight with an Atlantean never feels good, and it’d be nice if there was a way to mitigate that.

Proposal

Introduce a Weather Resistance secondary effect on gems made from Fulgurite (+0.5-2.5%) or Thunder Crystals (+3-5%).

The prefix could be “Insulated” or “Sheltering.”

Effects

  • Reduces damage from:
    • Lightning
    • Tornadoes
    • Extreme temperatures (such as in Sameria)
    • Dark sea element rain
  • Increases ease of escape from:
    • Waves
    • Whirlpools
  • Does not affect water poisoning since that can be managed with the brig or bringing soap along with you in full release.
  • Capped at 100%, any value beyond that has no additional effect.

Potential Issues

  • It’s pretty specific, it won’t be useful outside of the Dark Sea. Though would be in-line with other situational effects like Air Capacity or Swim Speed.

I don’t think this is a good solution.
I’d rather not need to grind another jewel set, especially not ANOTHER dark sea jewel set.

I think it’d be better if dark sea lightning could just never bring you below 1/3 max hp (unable to kill but can damage).

you can also use harming 1 to get out of waves

I agree, why add another thing to grind for when lightning can be addressed directly? It being a jewel secondary would also make it conflict with movement speed gems, which people would use for Dark Sea runs in the future.

I didn’t really think of the consequences of using jewels specifically to address the problem

To be honest, I think this idea is neat on paper, but the use cases are too few and far between. With climbing speed gems being reworked in full release to essentially act as what agility is right now (incredible movement out of combat), I can’t see myself equipping weather resistance gems, especially given that you would need 10 musgravite weather resistance gems to hit 100% effectiveness. If it was rebalanced a bit to add more use cases (for starters, even though soap fixes the dark sea rain issue, i would still have it resist dark sea rain) and also scale far faster, then I might see myself equipping a few with my soon-to-be agility gems for a dark sea build.
However, I will say that I appreciate the idea of adding more gem effects since they are FAR too lacking currently.
