What could there be more to the dark sea?

The big thing with the dark sea is that it’s meant to infinitely generate more islands to take a look at, so I think it should have more focus on exploration in general.

There should be distinct types of islands with different gameplay purposes, like these two:

  • Lost cities, which are covered in wrecked or fossilized buildings made of materials that wouldn’t decompose. Some particularly well-kept buildings could have ancient texts preserved in them, or new ancient storage chests which can contain defunct currencies, preserved clothes, or various other artifacts.
Buildings in lost cities should have their own random generation, so that none are ever the same as ones found previously, including building materials, room sizes, and furniture layouts.
Each lost city island should generate lore for its texts to use, assigning different presets and keywords to these texts.
Lost cities are 3x more likely to have ghosts on them than other islands. Ghosts would now also have generated dialog if they spawn in a lost city, much like the texts.
Lost cities do not contain dark sea animals.
  • Dark wilderness, which are dense with special dark sea foliage and animals. Most similar to current dark sea islands. These display the effects of the dark sea rather than the world before it.

Also, a much-needed update to island height. Islands that are wide should be bound to be less tall, and vice versa, that way each island has about the same amount of explorable area, preventing some islands from taking too long to have fun exploring.

And then that should be a little more enjoyable for the exploration fans.

MEDUSA BOSS PLEASE VETEX
would be sick af

The goat has done it again

ok now do dark underground, would be accessible only through craters / tunnel islands and is focused on ground exploration (no skyship or ship). Would look like hell

is this not something from scp foundation :skull:

I think that’s just be oshaune from helldivers :skull:
Would be cool but alas I’m pretty sure with how the AO ocean works, there can’t be any dry areas below sea level :man_shrugging:

i think those are just called caves bro helldivers 2 didnt invent them

me unlike you i took a mythology class medusa got killed by perseus and used her head as a weapon in war, but the other 2 gorgon sisters could maybe be bosses asumming they didnt die in the fracture

Nah I mean caves with bugs and shit ton of enemies that kill you to death

dark sea mutated insects would actually go hard

I was thinking about doing them for the dark skies but then I remembered there’s 24/7 torrential rain which id imagine isn’t ideal bug conditions

are you forgetting that the dark sea is just constant rain

Didn’t I literally just mention it

u said dark skies, i assumed u meant dark sea sky islands which i would assume are above the rainclouds

i got many name idea for Lost cities such as the city of Camulodunum (Mentioned by Dark sea ghost), Dunwich (Theos Homeland), city of athens (also mentioned by dark sea ghost but i think Athens should be sunken city somewhere in the war sea due to it geography literally next to mount othrys)

dunwhich gon turned into the epicenter, its alr ingame lol

except this game is about a twist in greek mythology so high chances that might not have happened

The Perseus myth was long, long before 100 AD when the timeline split. It makes sense that if all the myth monsters are in AO, then this myth would have happened too

pve suggestion i made for balance discord, its dark sea related so i figured id put it here to see what you guys (forumers) think

Far Reaches Animal counter to cliffs
Reasoning-
For how strong these things are supposed to be, they get essentially reduced to nothing at the slightest of cliffs, making them fodder.

Addition-

  • Thymos, Krystoros, and Terasavros can now ram walls, which creates a shockwave of inverse knockback, throwing players towards them no matter how high said wall is. Essentially, the concept is that in order for the player to shoot the creature from atop a tall cliff, they need to risk themselves falling off towards it, which disincentivizes camping somewhere the animals cant hit you.,
  • Kynatos and Pnevma will back up slightly from cliffs in order to get enough distance to perform a massive leap up to the top of the cliff. (its a hyper mutated wolf/tiger, so yes, it can probably do that),

Effect on Game- Makes enemies that are supposed to be very difficult not counterable by like 5 feet of cliff

Conflict- idk might make it the thing which is supposed to be difficult actually difficult which people could whine about? (its the far reaches ofc the enemies will be difficult???)

Implementation Difficulty- im not an expert but id imagine it would take a bit of time to animate and maybe have slight AI changes so they are able to do it

Change Efficiency- Its a hyper mutated animal thats like 5x your size so it makes sense to me lore wise, is there a better way to add this? idk not that i see this, this makes sense to me

oh and i dont think this is really necessary for non far reaches dark sea animals cuz their drops are mid and they are way weaker

  • Yes
  • No
  • Maybe so
