What Do We Know About Super Tall Mirage Islands?

So we’ve all heard of absurdly high dark sea islands, breaking through the dark sea fog and so on. The type that take 40+ minutes to climb (weaklings lmao).

But do you guys know if there are any strategies to find them, stuff like what sort of island generation would be likelier for a farlands generation, ways to spot them, and stuff like how rare they usually are. Are they more common the further out you go? How exactly does the bug that causes them to appear work? These are the sorts of things I wanna know.

I REALLY wanna find one and climb them, but with the current ugly, annoying slog that the dark sea is, I wanna know any possible ways to make it more bearable.
(as a side note, why is the dark sea so purple and ugly? I ngl was expecting it to look more like how it looks like when you’re under a storm cloud, complete with the nicer, blue fog, rather than a bit too dark, purple and waves absolutely everywhere making it noisy and annoying, with a soundtrack that’s fine until you’re on your third hour and going insane)

I’ve noticed that past insanity 2 the island generations start to really ramp up in size, both width wise and height wise. Currently I’d say insanity 2 would be a good place to start looking for these peaks.

I’m not sure that’ll work. For one, wider islands would get more annoying to check, atlantean brigs will be the objectively worst decision I have to deal with, and the sighting of these farlands islands always seemed to be rather close to the bronze sea

Outrun all atlantean brigs with 120+ speed B)

checking an island:

You have 541 agility right…?

where did you get that figure the max is 432.

anyways the issue with gigantic islands is that even with my speed it takes ages to check each corner and get back

its the max for size

optical watches

Ah, I was going off max attack size :pensive:

Yeah that’s fair I suppose, I usually just try to go on dark sea runs and run into them on the way.

I would advise finding a rainless dark sea and grabbing some t5 clearsight, should help finding islands.

issue is that this won’t help me tell which islands are super tall and which merely go past the fog

well nothing is going to help you with that part.

my understanding is that the further out you go, the more extreme island generation is supposed to get.

and most of the time it holds up in practice from my runs into the 4th and 5th ranges with only a handful of exceptions.

pretty sure its just random, but i tend to find those giant tall islands in insanity 3+

why agility? i think climbing speed (mixed with some agility) is a lot better for scaling these islands

islands that are tall is not the same as island that breaks the skybox for the dark sea, and so far the cases that I’ve seen were about 25 seconds or so from the bronze sea on a brig

with 201+ agility you can constantly spam teleporting high jumps which send you straight up, without needing something like a mobility skill to dash toward the wall again

what?
