We’ve gone over the what, now onto the why:
Out of all of these reasons, which are those that resonate with you?
I do it because it’s fun.
I do it to challenge myself.
I do it to partake in other activities later.
I do it to gain an advantage over others/meet the community’s standard.
I do it as I like to complete things.
I do it because I can.
I do it because my friends also play.
I do it to see numbers go up.
I do it to compete against others.
I do it to feel superior to others.
I do it since AO is the only game I play.
I do it since I’ve sunk too much time into AO.
I still do it, even if it isn’t any fun.

This is everything that I could think of when making this poll, do reply if anything seems to be amiss so that I may modify the polls afterward[1] or if you would like to detail your vote(s).
Thank you for your time.
they’re dynamic polls, so I can change them whenever ↩︎
Why are all but two of the “why” options negative, with one of the remaining being neutral at best? You either must put your vote on “the game isn’t fun”, say you feel compelled to play the game, say you only play because of friends, or say it is fun with no reason given.
Maybe it’s a mistake caused by being too wordy, maybe it’s a deliberate attempt to frame every why possible as either having nothing to do with the game’s entertainment (“it’s not fun but”, “my friends play”), being some sort of psychological manipulation (“I must do it”), or having no substance behind the sole positive reason available for playing the game (“It is fun”).
I also don’t know what “as to have fun with other mechanics later” means. Are you referring to a feeling of falling behind?
Ignoring the “It isn’t fun” that is not accurate in my case, I did make a fresh berserker with no trading/auction house/non-standard vendor inventory use to see if people were frauds when complaining about the bosses.
Because there’s nothing else to be said about having fun when everyone can check what activity was picked by those who chose this singular, positive option.
What’s important is to know why people dislike what they do in AO, but still find a reason to commit to it. Though it is true that it’s bad wording on my end, hence I modified the poll at the cost of all of its votes—do spread the word if you could.
As for the “…as to have fun with other mechanics later.” Option, I’m referring to how most people would find the tedious grind as only that, not fun, but still something they partake in for the sake of fun they can have after it (like being overpowered or battling other players).
And for the “It isn’t fun, but…” options, for example, the one on competition, think of how some people might dislike the combat, but still partake in it because they like competing.
