Make jarl ivar after a minute start losing hp at a steady rate (can’t cause death)
In all the kills I got on him for drops I’ve never seen him actually iframe anythihg
it’s when he does the metal ball on self
OH RIGHT forgot he has that ball encasing skill, it’s alright I guess since it felt like it almost didn’t exist since for some reason I can still damage him. I guess compared to Maria it feels balanced since the duration is very short, meanwhile Maria has iframes even while attacking
.
yeah I know the ability you’re talking about, I’ve just always hit him anyways when he does it.
I’ve had attacks moving towards him, he do that, and take full damage.
what do I think of jarl ivar?
he deserves to get his pillow warm on both sides
forever
well then guess we have 2 whole experiences as i have clearly seen the immune thing come up atleast a few times
at the very least it’s not like the bs Maria pulls
well what if he’s like me and loves it when his pillow is either warm or cold
For me, the hating part never occurred because I dealt with the entire fight so quickly. There was nothing for me to fixate on, I enjoyed the fight because it was challenging, and I liked the character because his lines and cutscenes were cool. Again, nothing for me to obsess over, he came off as a one-off character, who’s supposed to appear, pose a threat, drop some lore tidbits and go. He did exactly that, and I spent exactly that amount of time on him.
he is definitely able to iframe through it if the attack hit immediately as he does it but any later and it will usually hit
he also very predictably exits the ball through the back so you can also clip him there (unless he’s already against the wall then he starts tweaking since he will clip against the wall attempting to go back). the main danger of the attack is that it is able to partially hide indicators so you need to be using your ears in case he’s doing something behind the metal ball
Makes me appreciate Elius
I think the main issue with the blocking/parry test (if that was the intention) is that (at least to my knowledge) that mechanic is never really told to the player or is mandatory anywhere else in the game. Hell I even forget it exists like almost the entire time while playing because I don’t really need it lol, but that aside, I still stand by what I said about him already
(Okii just read the replies further and this was already said mb lol)
Bit off topic, but when I fought him he kept bugging and respawning mid-fight so any damage I did was just negated. Ended up winning because he bugged and didn’t move at all until he was at around 1k~ but I managed to kill him. Overall did not have an enjoyable experience with Allanon lol

Parrying as a mechanic is done very poorly so having a boss entirely based around it isn’t very good, but yeah also parrying isn’t something casual players do a ton. They tend to forget about it and try to dodge, so they try to dodge Ivar’s attacks and get crushed. Doesn’t help that his attacks are stupidly big and still deal tons of damage even if you parry and cover your screen in particles so you can’t see anything.
Forget about it…
Forget something they’ve never been taught?
yeah…

while yes it was never outright stated ingame, if you are at ivar and still dont know about blocking/parrying thats honestly on you at that point, theres no way you wouldnt of checked keybinds, fatfingered G, or seen a boss block/parry and got curious before getting to the current final boss
Bosses can already supercharge attacks, unlike players. Not unlikely a new player sees a boss blocking and assumes it’s some exclusive mechanic, especially since there is no pattern or rules in NPCs’ blocking.
I don’t really think so. The player is told about pretty much every other function: dodging, tall jumps, flaunting etc. It’s entirely possible they never felt the need to change the keybinds for those actions, and thus never learned about blocking.
Nothing says good game design like depending on the players to learn about what’s meant to be a fundamental combat feature via a completely accidental misinput.
i just chugged ironskin in bossfights as i couldn’t be assed to block (unless it’s a dragon)
Game does tell you about dodging and blocking at some point with a popup, earlier bosses just do not encourage you to do that very much especially when parry timings are inconsistent compared to I see ball coming my way I dash
It’s so easy to dodge most bosses that you never gain the split second decision making to track a boss and their attack in a cramped room that ivar requires. Most bosses you outzone their projectiles while throwing blasts for 5 minutes, I only learned the art of adding the block and parry to the dodge because I tragically decided I wanted to beat all the bosses with fs on my first playthrough prior to full release
