What Do You Think Of Jarl Ivar?

Mostly asking this question here for a friend, said they haven’t seen much art of him unlike Argos (who they believe are similar) so they think that he’s heavily disliked

To me personally, I think Ivar is a bit of the newest “Captain Maria”, not much build up to him (iirc), very one note with his only purpose in the story being to fight him. Aside from that I don’t really have anything to say, he’s just, there lol

Fun :sleeper:
I liked the challenge.
He does appear rather suddenly in the story though.

Tbh actually I do have something more to add, I liked his first phase with the metal golem, since that’s the first time we seen magic be used like that and it gives possible hope for a cool spell :eyes:

Second phase though, ooh not really a fan of the large AoE attacks in a small arena, and the health/speed reduction injury also doesn’t help it either lol

Hate, HATE this frick. There’s no strategy or thinking to be done for his second stage. All there is to do is to realize that he’s a DPS test and you need to go off-the-walls mad and just attack, attack, attack to win. That’s it. Just press the offensive.

It’s the only way, because you sure as hell aren’t dodging anything in that cramped space when he has several things hampering your mobility.

most of his attacks are actually surprisingly avoidable when you stop to breathe and pay attention.

Cool.

Doesn’t change the fact that it’s literally not even worth doing so. I tired dodging. I tried parrying. I tried using good foods and potions. Nothing worked.

The only thing that worked at all was just getting up close and spamming. That’s it.

His first phase was interesting, even though its a bit similar to Ormolu, but its fine. Second phase, though…

I hate this boss. He is the worst boss in the game, beats even Allanon. The room is abysmally small, and fire on its sides just demolishes my fps. At the same time, the boss has no shame spamming his 700 damage axe, that I have no room to dodge away from, unless I lure Ivar into a corner, and then run into the opposite one. There is also his ranged grab, but Allanon flies even faster and does 2000 damage total, so Ivar’s version of this isn’t the worst one.

And, we also have to address Roar of Glory. I’ve elaborated on that one enough times at this point. Give us bigger boss room and lower his drop chances to 1 in 2

HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I’VE COME TO HATE YOU SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX.

IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR HUMANS AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT.

FOR YOU. HATE.
HATE.

I know Vetex has, possibly unknowingly, built his entire meta on dps and power-size-stacking, but making an entire boss be a dps test isn’t great. I know people said he’s a parry-based boss, but come on.

Captain Maria had more buildup than Lady Carina, I’d say that chapter had a fine story before the second boss fight ruined all tension.

I love Jarl Ivar’s design and think he could be cool but the fact that seasoned players will struggle with him even with the best pve builds shows how bad this is. Imagine a new player who’s under max level, bad build having to deal with this metal titan that has an arena far too small to a point where every attack becomes practically impossible to avoid and just becomes a case of surviving against his 400 severe bleed shit. Cool boss introduction with cool gear, very, very bad design.

he’s a little goofball

If you don’t get hit then the DPS race suddenly becomes vastly more managable.
Don’t get me wrong, if this bossfight lasts longer than like 30 seconds you’re probably dead, but if you’re just rushing him then it probably will barely last 5.

True, but Carina doesn’t do any damage. Her numbers are laughably small, she is tanky instead. Doesn’t matter how fast she attacks, you can just regen all that in a few seconds. Meanwhile, Maria’s tentacles will reduce an average level 140 player’s hp by about 15% per slap. She throws in a barrage of those whole being invincible btw.

While maria is a terrible boss, the G key does exist.
If you can’t hurt her and you’re not defending yourself, what are you doing lol.

Sure, the perfectly-fit build for that specific boss would help, but no other boss requires you to adapt at such degree.

Funnily enough, I actually disagree. I think if you’re bothering to dodge and block, you are legitimately employing a losing strategy against him.

Just. Attack. I don’t know what on earth got you past him, but as someone playing a Lightning Conjurer with the most godawful gear in the game, this is the only thing that worked for me.

No I’m saying if you just rush him like an idiot you’ll probably keel over within 5 seconds.

I didn’t just get past him, I farmed him for his drops lol.
Not getting hit remains the best way to win quickly.
Playing offensively doesn’t mean completely disregarding defense.
