the question

what do you think of mahler’s sixth symphony its quite a simple question

the hell is mahler’s sixth symphony

large symphonic classical piece made by mid composer

all jokes aside, despite growing up classically trained I think I’m a little bit too biased to give a “fair opinion” of this piece and of Mahler in general. Mahler’s writing is very spaced out, in terms of his phrasing- he’s extremely patient with the sentences he articulates, but I think my issues with it stem from my inability to make any sense of these phrases? They’re coherent next to one another, but the bigger picture doesn’t leave a strong impression on me. I end up relying on less tangible feelings to connect with the music. I don’t find them memorable, which is what separates good composers from great for me and why I prefer symphonic/orchestral music within the context of a story. My memories as a listener working in consilience with a piece creates the strongest feelings for me, and I, unfortunately, have little to no connection with Mahler outside of the large hammer.
