What Happened to Tidecliff Isle?

Who exactly lived at Tidecliff prior? What caused the town to get abondoned?

Everything around the island is pretty vague, and is all up to speculation.

Here's what we know so far:
  • Elevated, mountainous terrain
  • Lacks any sign of walls
  • Destroyed cranes are placed both seaside and inland
  • Ruins of merchant stands are set up across the entire island
  • There are large emerald crystals within the island’s rock and under the sea
-Samerian banners line the rocks around the island
  • Vases and storage piles are scattered all around, much more than others
  • Small, rectangular patches of grass (or other soft material?) lay on a few locations of the island

We can somewhat piece together that the island was once sworn to Sameria, was a prosperous trading hub, and that its terrain provided natural defense from attackers.

The emerald crystals on the sea floor and inside the rock might’ve been the island’s main appeal, with Sameria mining out large amounts of it at once, which would also explain the need for cranes to help transport it across the island.

Now, the real mystery, why did such a successful town die out all of the sudden? The first assumption the majority of people would make is that the town was directly invaded by another kingdom, but that would’ve been extremely difficult to do with the island’s natural defense. Also, there are no weapons lying around the town at all; a majority of the storage piles and crates are fully intact as well.

My personal theory is that instead of directly fighting on land, an opposing kingdom (most likely ruled by the current/former wind curse user) surrounded the island with whirlpools, forcing its inhabitants to either drown or starve to death.

What do you guys think though?

you can swim around the whirlpools

you can swim under the whirlpools

Yes, but almost impossible lore-wise, the forces of the vortex would most certainly drag you in.

Plus, this opposing kingdom would also probably have a blockade in addition to the whirlpool, so anyone who successfully got past the whirlpool would’ve been shot and killed

why didn’t the traders just make ice platforms? were they fucking stupid?

why didn’t the traders just jump over the whirlpools? were they stupid?

Whirlpool Magic’s return.

Maybe the whirlpools were some kind of natural phenomenon, and the island was roughly akin to a real-life boomtown.

anyways it could just be the island is commonly claimed by clans, and the ruins are just the aftermath of the last clan a few months ago

Why did they build on an awkward tall rock if not to harvest the fancy rocks inside? I feel like that does make sense.

I don’t think clans are canon.

I think clans are canon, they just never really do anything

Like the cult of greenwish would be equated to a leaderboard clan. And the jaw pirates (assuming they don’t have story significance) as a rookie one

Player clans aren’t canon, also I doubt that Gravy/Syndicate having control over any island aside from preexisting relations is canon either

player clans would be canon as seperate organizations i assume
gravy/ass would prob claim islands to stabilize them, then unclaim them after a while

It seems to have been a mining town probably akin to how Frostmill is for Ravenna, or how whispering cavern may have used to be. As for how it was lost, I’m thinking more likely that the whirlpools were caused somehow as a result of the mining. Maybe they accidently dug into some large underwater caverns and breached part of it that led back into the ocean, or maybe the crystals themselves had some sort magic energy in them and fucking with them enough caused the whirlpools. Something along those lines is my best guess based on what info we do have.

okay, so they might use the terrain to their advantage and thought there would be no need for walls, maybe a cave or something?

maybe a river or aquaduct that ran through the place? the name ‘tidecliff’ would also make sense since it depends on the tides, and is on a cliff

something like sailors’ lodge highly likely (but more economy wise)

i think this could be an emerald mine that got abandoned, would explain the cranes, the boarded up hole

…and the storages

moss persumably? trying to get food instead of constantly having to rely on import?

I’m guessing the crystal curse user fought someone here

Speaking of which, is it a coincidence that Crystals and Whirlpools are found around the island, and Ruby Roger tells us that he has crystal magic and Clark Silvers has wind?

Ruby Roger with Ruby Crystal
Vetex would.

Ruby Roger has emerald crystal magic, I’m calling it

More seriously, I think he calls himself Ruby Roger BECAUSE of his magic, (or he’s trans but didn’t change his name :3)
