As I have already explained in my earlier post, I took a hiatus off Roblox and came back, only to discover that A.O. wasn’t out. I also discovered that Deepwoken was already released, and not exceptionally recently, either. It also has a very healthy player base (well, as healthy as Deepwoken could realistically get based on the perma-death mechanic anyway).
I bought Deepwoken and am enjoying it so far. The boat system is really good, and bugs are basically non-existent. It also looks beautiful, the music is nice, the combat is satisfying, and the levelling mechanic is like a creative blend of the skill level system that OPGA had and the level point distribution system, though you’ll have to forgive me for not checking whether this system wasn’t simply copied from another game. Interactive NPCs are always very charming, especially in RPGs. All in all, this is one of the first Roblox games for which I have no real complaints.
In any case, Deepwoken seems to have some overlap with AO with respect to the kinds of players that it will attract, so this is definitely going to affect AO’s release somewhat. However, I’m not sure as to the extent to which it will affect it. People generally don’t play perma-death games on Roblox from what I gather, so AO has a massive advantage in that regard. Furthermore, Vetex already has clout (except he’s been cancelled for some reason during the time I’ve been gone), and has a loyal fanbase that will play the game regardless. But then again, Vetex has a habit from previous games of releasing games basically unplayable with like 30m ~ 1hr of possible gameplay on release…
Eh, I don’t think it will be that bad. Shipfaring games have existed on Roblox for ages; the combination of shipfaring and magic might be rarer, but by that logic Deepwoken copied Arcane Adventures.
Well it’s releasing over a whole year after Deepwoken did, so hopefully the comparisons will die down compared to how rampant they were went deepwoken first came out. The comparisons will probably come to an end when people actually play AO and see it’s entirely different than DW in everything other than having magic and boats. Yeah they have the same target audience but that’s only because Roblox’s action/adventure catalogue is drier than ghandi’s toenails
Which is exactly why AO is taking so long; we’re getting content up to level 120 on public release, which encompasses the entire first sea
True, can’t figure out why. Is it because they’re harder to make, or because of the average age of a Roblox player? Probably a combination of both, with some other factors I’m not thinking of right now.
The only impact I see is a comparison and potentially midwoken fans mentioning theft at the thought of someone else making a roblox game involving ships despite just about everything else being fundamentally different. All I can imagine the impact will be is just comparisons.
anyway i dont think dw will have any impact on ao, theyre entirely different games and all of the shared features between dw and ao are pulled off in extremely different ways
AO and Deepwoken are similar but also completely different games, i feel like that AO would prob attract more players due to the “lack of permadeath” and the fact it gonna become a free game when its complete
While some deepwoken addicts might (definitely will) show up, scream about how this is apparently a deepwoken clone because water and then either get banned or exiled by the community as a whole, I think AO will get a good playercount boost from the deepwoken players with functioning brains.
