it’s for getting space between you and the target, as magic is distance based.
According to inferno snare is a really free grab as well, so it’s easy to land and get away with.
But is it only for mages

Nope, hybrids can get it. It only takes 120 Magic. I don’t think any base spells are Mage-exclusive, actually—some options are, like Ultimate Art and Shape, but the spells themselves are accessible. Hybrids can barely get Aura if they put 150 points in Magic and 100 points in their other stat.

On release you mean, cause those options are still available just not useable for magic hybrid builds yet
It definitely makes sense however I could be blind to a part that you said about ultimate arts. There’s no way those can be mage or another build exclusive is what I thought. It could be that I’m going crazy or I’m stupid.
On release on Mages can get them, but once the level cap raises high enough then other builds using magic will eventually get them
will there then be something else for mages? or will the only thing making mages different be that they get the stuff faster?
there may eventually be mage exclusive lost spells

For a while it will just be us getting stuff faster, but eventually in the future the perks of an extra lost magic and even exclusive lost spells (any that have a requirement over 1200 magic points) will appear
