I hopped on AO this weekend for the first time since the Dark Sea update, and I have no idea how things work. I can’t remember potion stuff and the only things I’ve been doing so far is continue the story and explore.
I still have fun with it. Just finished transferring a lot of sets over to various characters, and boy oh boy is max destruction magma/explosion mage a whole lot of fun.
I highly recommend exploring all the new islands in the Bronze Sea. Also look for Makrinaos in the Nimbus Sea. They’re increible.
If you own a clan I’d give building a shot, it’s super fun. I could explain the basics of how to get started (like making an auto-farm to keep your funds up while you build)
There’s been quite a few things added since the Dark Se update, I’ll try to give you a brief overview of the most important things:
-
Potions: since you said you said you don’t remember much about them, potions can basically be crafted by using a reagent (an item that causes a certain effect in a potion, for example using coal to make a burning potion or pink apples to make a love potion) and a catalyst (an item that determines the form of the potion, for example a clam to make it drinkable, pinecone to make it throwable, whale blubber to make it a gel, etc.). There’s basically reagents for almost every status effect and more in the game, if you’re interested you can find all the reagents and catalysts on the wiki here: Potions | Arcane Odyssey Wiki | Fandom
-
Deckhands: deckhands now level up, and can have also professions that give them special abilities. The professions are chef (automatically cooks your fish), navigator (speed boost + whirlpool escape), shipwright (boosts ship repairs), cannoneer (lowers cannon/mortar cooldowns), merchant (sells random items), and enchanter (damage reduction). There’s also certain item types that can be given to deckhands that give them small buffs like faster fishing speed, weather damage reduction, etc.
-
Gear & Gear stats: every magic now has unique arcanium stats, and arcanium can only be used by magic builds. Strength and vitality builds have been given exclusive gear as well. Three new stats were added: regeneration (increases health regen), piercing (more damage to blocking & high defense opponents), and resistance (increased blocking power and slight damage reduction when charging attacks). Modifiers have been added for almost every gear stat, which is essentially a second enchant on items. They’re primarily found through digging up chests, but there’s also a special raid that can be done to obtain them as well. Sunken Warrior Armor set (gives defense + atk speed) and Sunken staff were added.
-
Weapon disarming: weapons can now have their moves disarmed and applied to similar weapons, so you can have more diverse move sets on ur weapon. To disarm a weapon, take it to a blacksmith NPC.
-
Fort Castrum: a raid event in the bronze sea. You can sail to fort castrum and destroy its defenses with you cannons and mortar. After you’ve done that you can board the island and fight multiple waves of enemy NPCs, ending with a boss fight on the final wave. The rewards are multiple chests that give modified items.
-
Island Building: players in clans can now build on claimed islands. When you claim an island, a building hammer tool will appear in your backpack that allows you to build a variety of structures for the island. You can build things such as farms to farm galleons for ur clan’s treasury, different shops, and defensive structures. You can bring stranded castaways to your built shops for them to run them.
-
Vitality was slightly reworked, giving Vit builds proper first awakenings that allow them to imbue their attacks with spirit it energy. The first spirit weapon was added, which currently has one move
I’m pretty sure that’s most of the major stuff, but I probably forgot a bunch of smaller things
You’ll have quite a bit to explore and do for a while for sure, but the game still lacks a lot of endgame content
The stuff we do have is good fun though for sure
Resistance no longer grants blocker power, it gives damage reduction during charging, and the first 0.5s of cast time, as well as 50% of it’s damage reduction during all cast time after 0.5s
what’s fucked is this is a genuinely good interpretation of the lore
I picked up a few deckhands and bought a brig recently since some dude bought a few things from my inv (don’t really care about the economy all I need is good ship and magic)
I’ll tamper with potions and the gears as I must continue with my glass cannon lightning water mage build
Before allat I need to get a better laptop I genuienly pull up to a friend’s house and play on her laptop for hours on end
I’ve explored Blackreach and Thryloss crossing so far, and I’ve gotten to the Worries of War quest in the Nimbus storyline
I have to say the islands are breathtaking
By the way, I’ve never really explored the Dark Sea much, what can be done there currently how useful are its items?
Endlessly grind your life away on the metaphorical sharpening stone that the dark sea is. Most of the gameplay consists of sailing (boring).
some of its armour sets are good, but most importantly you can get valuable reagents, gems, fish (giant fish turns into massive fish, a prefix equivalent to golden), and exotic enchantment scrolls (note that the nimbus sea’s exotic scrolls of regeneration/resistance/piercing aren’t really valued).
Also, most of the ship parts you can get from it are the META components.
edit1: I also forgot about atlantean essence which is a must-have for META armours
OOORAH I must grind to rain hell on the pirate ships
Are some of them exclusive to specific parts of the dark sea (areas or regions or reaches whatever)
No, though the bronze sea has an easier dark sea than the nimbus’ (base ship levels are lower).
I’ll sail back then
gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank gank
Got ganked by some pvper thrice in a row he even camped my ship
You should start nimbus sea storyline when Full release update release
@Duke_of_the_Storm oh one more thing
most efficient way to grind Dark sealed chests is Siren Nest in Insanity 1 as it yield you 3 dark sealed chests and siren nest spawn quite often
Once I buy a new laptop I’m gonna be ready to grind
