That’s a good idea.
To expand upon that, you could have magic mutation just be a basic feature for all magic builds. Eventually in the story, much like awakening, you get a mutation, and you can just pick one.
Later on, if you’re mage, you get a second one, and an ancient.
Yeah! And I was thinking that mutations would unlock a new “tree” of customization. Like plasma could grant lightning more DOT and self-synergies (moves could kinda inflict different status effects to combo, so you’d be encouraged to use more than just blast).
Honestly I’d be fine with less magics if that means more effort can be put into them
okay this might be somewhat unpopular
but i kinda wish vetex stuck with the magic-centric style of gameplay that he had in AA
Reminds me of Magician’s Excursion where the element system is based on upgrading your element’s current capabilities. And storm is the best one, don’t even debate me on that.
Plasma adds DoT to lightning, the others do something, I only ever played Fire, Ice, Lightning, Plasma, and Storm.
A lot of people are saying mutations are retconned, however this is not necessarily the case; they just don’t exist in the war seas.
I can’t think of many off the top of my head that I dislike much, so I’ll probably just say that the one i dislike the most is probably the Arcane Government no longer being a corrupt organization
I’ve been told and shown proof that Mutations are still canon, but not to the game. They’re a thing in the War Seas, the game is just wrong, which is way worse.
AG being corrupt is still canon in my book. There’s a reason they aren’t still in charge in Magius. There’s a reason they didn’t share the technology of telecommunications.
Can you elaborate on that
I think Vetex said that mutations are canon to the Arcane Universe, and it’s how you get lost magics, but he made the game have scrolls instead for the sake of gameplay, and it’s also canon to the game because NPCs talk about it.
I’d rather he retrofit the lore to the gameplay rather than the gameplay to the lore, but I’d rather the gameplay not just be plain wrong.
Honestly, I don’t care about most retcons, but a lot of them like Darkflame and Promethean Fire being evaporated, along with Morock getting Vetex’d is really showing the transition from an ultimately-silly, but charming take on Greek Mythos to something trying to stand out as a serious, publishable story, and it just makes me a little nervous?
I trust Vetex in making the AU books (when those come around) something worth dropping hard-earned bones on, but it’s going to lack a lot of the original charm of AA’s lore, which came from characters being as powerful as Blue Shells in Mario Kart Wii. Maybe I’m just getting attached to old lore for a game I never played the original form of, though.
Yes mutations are still canon in the AU as they exist in the 7 seas, however I don’t believe I’ve seen any NPCs in AO specifically mention mutations. Magic scrolls, on the other hand, have been mentioned;
Well, as much as I’d like for what you’re saying to be the case, I’ve been told over and over that the game is wrong, and they use mutation.
Told by who? The only things that are unrefutably canon are the things that are either implemented in-game, the lore doc, or said explicitly by Vetex on topics that the game does not fill in.
Well, since nobody has the evidence to disprove it this time, and I forgot what it is, I’m back on the side of your thing.
The 3 minds and mutations will always be a cooler and intimate concept than just studying more magics
i wish you were right, but vetex has said so himself actually that scrolls are only gameplay
vetex has mentioned a possible replacement before in patreon chat, though i’m not sure if it would be ok to share what it is
Ah, there it is.
