What retcon did you dislike the most?

With all the recent changes made to the AU’s lore, I was wondering what changes you guys were most opposed to.

bro why you repeating topics

they reversed it, it’s different

yeah but basically copied it

minds and mutations were a sick magic system :pensive:

I don’t really like the mind retcon. It felt more special and somewhat like a weakness to mages, to have a set limit of magics and to be unable to use any magic

Soulcasting and aurem being removed. It made the magic system feel like it had evolved, but now it’s like it’s always been the way it is which is kinda boring.

TRUEEEEEE
it feels like vetex just retconned everything that made his magic system unique and replaced it with generic “elemental magic that you can learn from a scroll!”

While the original system wasn’t all that in-depth it was still something vetex could call his own. But as you said the changes just make it no different than any other generic fantasy magic system.

mutations and why do we now have 20 magics, we shouldve just stuck with the 7 and made the others obtainable mutations

also true

this could’ve worked gameplay wise by giving every magic a more unique identity and having them easier to balance if there were only 7

yk i’m starting to see a pattern with what retcons ppl dislike

well yeah why would we all have different opinions on what we disliked as a forum mutations were objectively cool

imagine if vetex just added a spin to the character creator where you would spin a wheel for magics and there was also codes you could put in somewhere in the game for more spins

omg then he can sell rerolls for robux and make some magics objectively better to make bank ur a genius

fuck no whadahael

what if he also added a last name wheel where you could spin for your last name or clan that would give you a boost in stats whichever name you get

I like it, why didn’t I think of that?

Anyway, I liked mutation because it was sort of a physical growth that’s caused by character development.
It’d still fit pretty well if all lost magics were added at the same time.
Then mages get to mutate a magic into an ancient magic. So fun.

YES this is was a HUGE disappointment to me, having magic circles always be a thing was so damn lame. The evolution from primitive magic to circle magic was cool cause it showed humanity took Prometheus’ gift and made it their own

Anyway for the topic, the retcon I loathe was making the Arcane world basically take place on Earth. The War Ages could have been an interesting thing, but the biggest issue is that is just constrains any creativity for the AU’s history and creates unnecessary questions that could’ve been handwaved away had it been its own world

Know I may get flak for this, but I’d prefer there to have been only the seven starting magics of AA. In exchange for us being able to customize them. Like, maybe a point buy system where you can have lightning paralyze, but you lose out on the attacks dealing an AOE plasma-globe like shock.
