What's stopping vetex from deleting vetcord and the forums?

Pros

  • Vetex would be able to develop as he pleases free of hate or dumb criticism
  • He would still have his testers for bug reports
  • He would still be supported by his patreon
  • Everybody knows vetcord and the forums represent a very small minority of his playerbase, so it wouldn’t be that affected

Cons

  • Stock and Hyperspace would be homeless

What if he wants it? Vetex lurks, he takes at the very least mental notes of features that players don’t like/actively enjoy. There is no better place for criticism than the forums, it’s much more centralized and neatly sorted than Discord. Vetcord only exists as a place to chat/organize development than for typical forum talk. I couldn’t imagine developing a game with at least some community feedback WITHOUT an official forum. Things would be a mess.

If you want an MMORPG that was developed without user feedback, try Cube World.

all the piss babies in the vetcord having a meltdown over a minor proposed change are the worst choosy beggars imaginable

I agree with most of that, but I think the issue is that the vetcord is a cesspool of entitlement, where actual constructive criticism is minimal and overshadowed by people just there to piss, cry, shit, etc.

It would be unfortunate if Vetex does a Starscape discord and makes it mostly read only. But, after this incident, I wouldn’t be surprised if the thought has crossed his mind.

It’s just names, seemingly unimportant and minor. People took it way too far this time, and they’re largely to blame, however…

While Vetex might be the creator and lead developer, he can do whatever he wants, it still doesn’t change the fact that this should probably have been thought about longer. I mean… C’mon, Strong Warrior? Weapon Mage? It feels lazy, basic, uninspired. I’m not sure if they talked this over with contributors/other team members, but he really should have. Just saying.
