underrated: wandering potionmakers, you can get some good potions from them for very cheap overrated: lost knowledge, extremely rare and expensive for slightly better stats and a unique name in chat (or special effects) useless: shipwrecks, ive only explored one once, never got anything good from it and i constantly lose 1-2k ship durability from the wreckage parts floating at the surface of the water for no reason useful: fleets, dont need an explanation
useless:
dodge parry?-frames (iframes got replaced with something that reduces damage taken like a parry but worse because it has a cooldown for some reason)
deckhand commands that arent follow me, repair and gather supplies
clan wars
pirate takeovers (its just a spawn increase so its not really anything useful since pirates already spawn alot)
honorable evil feature mention:
the evil ship boarding wind blast
Underrated: The town npcs. They are funny and I like them
Overrated: Whatever the current meta build is or whatever. I do not care
Useless: Some of the profession level rewards. Bonus drachma from bounty hunting is not worth the effort it takes to get it.
Useful: 1 second blinding stew
underrated: climbing gear
it’s very nice to be able to regen stamina while climbing
overrated: climbing gear
if you know the wall highjump strat it’s pointless to ever get the climbing gear and the automatic hook thing when you press space is only useful for cheesing rear admiral amelia and ormulo (both of them are already easy to cheese anyway) also it’s stupidly loud
useless: climbing gear
unless you’re a savant with such a bad loadout you don’t have any upward mobility and you don’t know the wall highjump strat, you will always have an alternative built into your character
useful: bucket helmet
it helps protect against the copious amounts of braindamage I get from accidentally high jumping into ceilings while I’m trying to climb
underrated: jewelcrafting profession, getting to guarantee gem substats are at their max potency is iirc something that didnt exist pre fr and it’s amazing overrated: honestly 100% agree on lost knowledge, but if you forced me to name another one, i guess the new fighting styles? vanishing was (and still is) fairly solid but it wasn’t a huge deal, and powder fist was broken on warlord specifically for maybe a few weeks and then immediately got nerfed, genuinely almost never see people use it nowadays useless: i have never used any deckhand command other than “unload the ship” and “repair the ship” useful: ranked & spars, easier for me to find randos to practice pvp with
it did exist but you needed luck 4+ so yeah that was definitely an amazing change
funnily enough i still use it on my warlord (not because it was meta, i got it much after it got nerfed just because i had already planned to since it fit the character i was making) and i saw a powder warlord yesterday
underrated: sensing. i see people complain about the implementation but its useful for tracking certain npcs, players, dark sea islands, recognizing dragon types etc (so basically most of its uses).
overrated: daily/weekly quests? i know you can get a sunken, dark sea chests but i genuinely forget about these and never do them. if thats a common opinion, then i choose the level 10 of most professions. (theyre only really used by a few people, other then gem fusing)
useless: deckhand commands. at least ive looted a shipwreck twice (maybe gliders even after the dragon update).
useful: the pouch system. for all the complaints people were making when this was announced, its just a second hotbar without screen clutter and i use it alot. (also fleets, and jewelcrafting prof but that was mentioned.)
don’t forget what is effectively a 10-20% boost while also losing effectively 10-30% on other stats, for what is effectively double the move penalty (shorter cd moves can have their cd doubled with the flat cd added, and the longer cd moves already having a massive cd increase from the x1.5-1.75, and every single move having double the energy cost)
The penalty is larger than the buff, only reason i still have it applied to 2 of my moves is cause i was too lazy to bother removing them, (and it is useful on a single ability specifically) with a diff 2 that got removed from a complete weapon replacement
(i liked the idea of fire conjurer long before it became recognized as one of the top tier choices after the acid nerf, and unfortunately a lot of my slots follow that same pattern with my powderfist warlord which was originally a basic combat warlord and sailorfist juggernaut from before full release)
You actually do. The cargo may be useless with the Fleets’ existense, but the treasure charts can come up to three per wreck, and all will point to the same island, the closest one. Thats some good loot. Not to mention, you get up to 4 sealeds from any shipwreck.
I think the main thing to put lost knowledge on would be abilities that you are only using in certain situations, so the longer cooldown doesn’t mean that much since you wouldn’t be trying to spam it anyway.
