yeah, seen some from Juno as well, not as much as Moti though, and then there’s a bunch of other ones i have listened to less of
I just like the lyrics sometimes

yoooo another prog enjoyer
My music taste lies between modern prog metal and modern prog rock though I do enjoy the classics like Pink Floyd and King Crimson (Pink Floyd was kinda how I got into the genre)
I never really liked Dream Theater because their singer was just not that pleasant to my ears but I’ve been really interested in the work of their ex-keyboardist Kevin Moore. He has two musical projects that I really liked, one called Chroma Key (prog rock) and OSI (prog metal). I really loved Dead Air For Radios and Blood. Both are amazing albums, with Blood featuring some other musicians I really like.
My favorite band is Porcupine Tree. They’re a prog rock/metal band. They made a few really good albums that I really cannot recommend enough. Deadwing (my favorite album of all time), is a concept album with some really nice atmospheric sounds and a 12 minute epic, Arriving Somewhere But Not Here.
There’s also Fear of a Blank Planet and In Absentia, both are conceptually strong albums that have the most interesting sound design to have ever blessed my ears, I cannot express how much I love every single song on those albums.
I am also really into the solo work of Steven Wilson, the frontman of Porcupine Tree. He recently (13 days ago) released a 40 minute long space themed concept album with only two songs. Steven Wilson is probably my favorite musician ever and he was a big inspiration for me to pick up an instrument myself (I play bass)
The drummer of Porcupine Tree, Gavin Harrison, is also an extremely talented guy and he has drummed on a few other prog projects, like the aforementioned OSI and King Crimson and the Pineapple Thief
Here’s a list of bands I’m into the most right now (In no particular order):
Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Katatonia, OSI, Chroma Key, TOOL, Soen, Riverside, Radiohead, The Pineapple Thief, Lunatic Soul, Type O Negative
sorry for the huge rant but it’s not easy to find people to talk to about my autistic hyperfixations these days
I like them too, especially In the Court of the Crimson King
My brother got me really into Dream Theater (he’s a music person (music major rn))
I also started out not really liking them, I always said I didn’t vibe with James LaBries voice but I knew very well it’s because I didn’t want to be too much like my brother (I’m over that now though and I’m now an enjoyer of Dream Theater)
Interesting, I didn’t know there was someone before Jordan Rudess (though I didn’t think to look either)
I’ve listened to porcupine tree a couple times, but I don’t think they really caught me at all, though fear of a blank planet (the song) does go hard
I should probably listen to Opeth, listened to Soen once but not again, TOOL goes so hard I really like lateraled and fear innoculum, and haven’t listened to a lot of Radiohead
I’m the one who asked, tbh I was lowkey waiting for a text wall like this lol
80’s; Men at Work is really good but I listen to a ton of them which are really good
I’d say Men at Work stands out though
Video Game OSTs are really good too, I often switch which genre of music I listen to every so often between 80’s and OSTs.
if you know any good places to start I honestly would very much like to know, I barely listened to anything and I feel like I only scraped the surface of a band that everybody seems to praise but I just don’t get.
I like that band mostly because of the bass playing since it reminds me a bit of TOOL with the high treble lol
There is no other band like TOOL. I love prog so much because every band is so unique and the music never gets old. No matter how many times you’ve listened to a song, you discover new things with each listen
(I am also learning how to play some TOOL on my bass)
old men crying audio lwk underrated
I couldn’t recommend a better place to start than Images and Words, their first album containing their biggest hit (Pull me Under) and other great songs (like Metropolis pt.1: The Miracle and The Sleeper)
If you like concept albums, they also have Metropolis pt.2: Scenes From a Memory
And finally they have Black Clouds and Silver Linings, which my brother said is basically an entire album of epics from Dream Theater
Enjoy:)
Addition: if your really into instrumentation, and perhaps like the instrumentals of Dream Theater more than the vocals, then I HIGHLY recommend listening to Liquid Tension Experiment, its an instrumental super-group (i guess?) that I consider hyper-prog because 1. its comprised of John Petrucci (Dream Theater guitarist (who also has really good solo work in the intrumental metal genre)), Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater drummer), Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater Keyboardist) and finally Tony Levin (King Crimson bassist (who btw, rocks a 10 STRINGER)) and 2. is instrumental metal. The groups music goes so hard and the riffs are immaculate, i love their work.
Whatever Mili counts as. I also like Wintergatan
I like rock and metal… and emo! And screamo! And rap! And hip pop! I like pierce the veil and avenged sevenfold a lot. Ask me for three avenged sevenfold songs? Guarantee you I can name 6. Same goes for pierce the veil! But I could probably name 10 for them.
profiling all y’all rn
i forgot to mention KEYGEN CHURCH and Camellia here
my music taste is all over the place but centres primarily on pop punk. favourite artists would probably be (and i am probably forgetting some atm):
Waterparks
With Confidence
Hot Milk
Caramelos de Dianuro
PXNDX
Set it Off
Selena
Kali Uchis
Three Days Grace
if i had to pick an all-time favourite though, it would be Waterparks.
actually, i lied, my favourite artist is veebea, she has a new single that just came out /j
Out of curiosity, what is it you like about Three Days Grace? I listened to a little bit but they never stuck, I just think they sound like Breaking Benjamin but just not as good (not to degrade your choice, I want information)
In terms of their more recent music, I don’t like it (except for their newest song, more details in a sec)
I like the original singer (Adam Gontier) the best, the albums like One X and their self-titled Three Days Grace are my favourites. The newer singer, Matt, tries too hard to sound like adam and personally I preferred him when he sang for My Darkest Days.
I like their newest song bc Adam is back in the band and it was a duet between him and Matt <3
some of my favourites are these:
I’ve actually heard of that group before, I think I stumbled across one song
Thanks for the other recommendations I’ll definitely listen to them
Try listening to the whole album, it’s one of a kind. It’s got some really heavy and really emotional songs on it. It features 6 songs and the 17:52 minute epic Anesthetize which many including the band consider to be their greatest work.
I could go on for days about why Porcupine Tree are the greatest prog band to me, there’s just nobody else quite like Steven Wilson. He knows how to produce the most beautiful sounds.
Any pilgrammed OST
that’s fire ngl
