When does a joke cross the line?

what if its under several layers of irony? That is a commonly used technique

Meh, still probably not funny to me

hmm, depends, honestly. On the one hand, I believe, as long as its funny, its okay, no matter how fucking weird it gets. However, directly harming someone as a result of or as a part of a joke, is never okay, but as long as everyone’s cool, it fine. Like, if someone called me a racial slur, and I was cool with them, I’d be cool with that. But if wasn’t, I wouldn’t, y’know?

Oh man, autocorrect did that, guess I’m a dumbass now

When they’re racist and not even funny
People for real be like
ā€œHaHa bLaCk MoNkEyā€ and expect you to laugh

  • extremely discriminatory jokes
e.g. ā€œhaha black bad haha look at me i’m a fucking comedian i just mocked an entire fucking race hahahahhhAHhHahahHā€
  • dark humor that is far too dark
e.g. ā€œoh look at those children crying over their father’s grave spit hahahah i’m so funny for ruining a moment of grief HAHA hah haā€

Mate.

when it isn’t fucking funny
a joke crosses the line when it isn’t funny
no matter how morbid it is
if it isn’t funny
you’ve crossed the line
I don’t care if it’s super racist
I don’t care if it has a horrible opinion
if it isn’t funny
then that’s where you cross the line

If it’s funny there is no line.

funny joke below

spaghetti

i am going to skewer you with a fork

please do

I don’t find a lot of things funny, so I don’t really know. I generally dislike colourful displays of ignorance, stupidity, or childishness regardless of what format it comes in.

In my opinion, jokes that cross the line aren’t considered jokes anymore and are instead considered an insult or attack. When jokes ā€œcross the lineā€ is when they actual become hurtful in a way. Dark humor is funny since it turns something bad into something good, but there’s a point that those ā€œdarkā€ jokes become targeting and hurtful. That’s the so called ā€œlineā€ I think shouldn’t ever be crossed.

the horny
that is all.

That makes it sounds like everyone crosses the line every day. If I was 5 and made a dumb joke about idk, Kirby being fat, it’s not funny but doesn’t cross a line.

Never as long as it’s funny.

And obviously as long as it doesn’t have destructive consequences obviously
:fr:
have to point that out cause there’s always gonna be some twat thinking I’d drop a nuke on a gay pride parade as a joke.

No man I would do it as a declaration of war :sunglasses:

to be honest

it’s purely subjective

Here’s when a joke crosses the line

Fang gains 1 infamy for his guild

Jokes aside this is a pretty philosophical question, it depends person from person. I would say something that seriously offends someone and has a harmful intent. Then again, this is too complicated of a question to give a certain answer to.

Very good question, though it seems everyone beat me to the answer already.

It crosses the line when it’s hurtful.

I hate it when some people use ā€œjokesā€ as a crutch to say hurtful things. They’ll say something actually offensive and hide it behind ā€œbruh it was just a joke xdā€.
