Which Magic makes the cooler Microwave Mage?

I’m planning on making a Microwave mage in this modern meta at some point in the future, so I’ve compiled a list of pros and cons for the two cloud magics

Poison :poison_magic_var1:

  • Funny, loud, blinding, obnoxious plasma clouds (and lore-accurate microwave)
  • Extra DoT for more slow-cooking

Cons:

  • Armor piercing arcanium

Ash :ash_magic:

  • Completely claim-proof clouds, even before getting a second attack in (don’t need to worry when fighting any kind of heat mage)
  • Better size affinity (i think this helps clouds)
  • Power-Size Arcanium

Cons:

  • Has rather low stats for a magic
which microwave mage cooler
  • Poison
  • Ash

Ash is laggier from my experience, do with this what you will.

remember, ash is a heat magic, and cant be used underwater; especially if you end up using Plasma or something.

Or play wild and do both-

Poison magic synergizes well with fire + plasma magic iirc and lets you create huge clouds of burning gas. Though, perhaps that’d be more of an oven mage build… Still, if I wanted to burn someone alive in an enclosed space (cough cough Merlot + Kai cough cough), that’d be my first choice.

why not light magic? that’s what microwaves actually are, electromagnetic radiation

play what you want, ao is to have fun, not to have meta (@ metapoly nothing personal)

dudeman?

ive been doing this for a while :sob:

you’re a mage
use both

only problem is, as it currently stands, you need either fire or plasma (plasma is the one you should choose btw) to achieve the true poison microwave build

I already have a Poison Conjuror and didn’t really want a second Poison slot, so I ended up going Ash - Magma for the ability to scatter puddles in my clouds.

I don’t have the armor yet but the results look promising so far

I finished adding the armor, here’s the completed build in action (sorry for going against democracy)

Full build & stats

Note that the jewel slots are empty because I’m using Attack Destruction Musgravites for extra cloud/puddle size

The random intensity on the build I believe is coming from a piece of Ash Arcanium I haven’t properly swapped to Magma Arcanium.

Unfortunately, despite how cool it looks these hazards aren’t actually very strong. They don’t scale off power at all, meaning it’s locked at 28 dmg which is barely anything if you’re relying on them as a main source of DPS.

I do wish there was a gem stat or something that affected the scaling of hazzards
