I had this recently:

So not too long ago i joined to put spiraling fury on my rapier, but i couldn’t so i asked some ppl nearby and told me it was in new servers (obviously, i just didnt know i wasn’t in a new server) so i hung around with the guy i asked and he tested dmg on me, when out of nowhere these two guys gank us. it went on for quite a while, with us two running the gankers off a few times for them to come back.
