Made a thread like this back in 2024 (oh golly gee willikers I’m getting old), and felt like asking again if y’all changed your answers (or didn’t see the first thread).
Never played Smash 64, but I’d probably main Pikachu, since I gravitate towards Pokemon characters. It would also be nice to main a character who isn’t low or bottom-tier garbage in any other games.
In Melee, I main Mewtwo. If you told Kid Me that the weird black tablet-thingies with the GameCube logo I found around the house were for saving data in GameCube games and that I could unlock Mewtwo in Melee for playing for a while, I would’ve flipped out! If you told me it was such a comfortably-shit character that it was often considered one of the worst characters in the game, I would’ve flipped out too, but not for any good reasons!
In Brawl, I main Lucario; its Aura mechanic is fun to make use of, and it was the closest I ever got to playing Mewtwo before Smash 4 released. I do have a pocket Falco as well, even though I have no connection to the Star Fox games (since I’ve never played one).
In Smash 4 and Ultimate, I co-main Mewtwo and Lucario.
Mewtwo is actually the only DLC character I have in Smash 4. It’s also nice having it in the only game it’s not complete ass in.
Mewtwo and Lucario are low-tiers in Ultimate. Send help.
Not an official Smash Bros. game, but in Smash Flash 2, I main Lucario with an Ichigo secondary.

I prefer playing Gen 3 Shiny (Green) Mewtwo in Melee if I can. Why Mewtwo’s green costume was replaced with yellow (which is closer to its Gen 2 Shiny) is beyond me.
White Lucario in Brawl.
Pale Bluish-White Lucario in Smash 4 & Ultimate. I don’t have a preferred Mewtwo alt in Smash 4 or Ultimate, because I just don’t care for any of them aside from the default.
Shiny Lucario and Ichigo’s 12th alt in SSF2. Still can’t wrap my head around how Smash Bros. doesn’t have normal Shiny alts for the Pokemon characters.
I’ve only ever played Smash 4 and Ultimate, but I tend to gravitate towards Lucario and Mewtwo like… apparently everyone else here.
I don’t really main any character so to speak considering I don’t play the game often.
Next time I have family over for game night, I think I’ll give Peach a try. Imagine the look on my younger cousins’ faces if/when Princess Peach slaps them silly (they don’t know about the leaderboard)
As someone who has played SSBB, SSB4, and SSBU, and has been a huge Smash fan since 2021, I don’t have a particular main, but if I had to gravitate towards a particular character…
Brawl: Wolf. God was he so badass in this game. Ultimate may have given him some buffs but he lost so much aura during the transition.
4 (particularly 3DS): Early on, it was Villager (I liked Animal Crossing) but as time went on I gravitated towards Kirby, Jigglypuff, Ike, and Mario.
Ultimate: Kirby (yet again), but also characters like Simon, King K. Rool, Incineroar, and Bayonetta.

Those times I played the old smash (I forgot which) at an arcade thing, I think I used kirby
For the longest time, people thought Mii Swordfighter was kinda garbage. Some put him in the bottom three—which, frankly, goes to show just how inexperienced most of the playerbase is with the miis, as in no universe was Mii Swordie anywhere near Ganondorf, Dedede, or Little Mac. But even a more accurate rating would put him in mid-tier or upper mid-tier.
Then, a video came out that showed that Mii Swordie has way more true combos than people thought, a lot of them off his Up-Tilt, Down-Tilt, and Down-Throw. Some of them were even borderline zero-to-deaths. And that’s on top of the fact that he has three amazing projectiles, a terrifying up-air, one of the strongest counters, etc.
Gale Strike, Airborne Assault, Hero’s Spin, and Blade Counter. None of these are quite the competitive move for their slot, but they’re easier to use than the ones which are.
