Who else isn't updating their build for the new update AT ALL? (ramble post)

I see everyone making new builds to ‘prepare’ for the Nimbus Sea as if it’s gonna tear everyone’s assholes apart if they don’t, and while that might be a good idea, I’ve realized something about myself.

Look, here are some builds that might’ve been good pre-dark sea, or rather, early into it.

Andronico Shield, magma-fire mage

Klaus Booth, Ice Conjurer

Ronan Stillwater, ILeg-Sailorstyle Berserker

Notice how they don’t have any exotic scrolls or modifiers on them.
That is because I DON’T WANT TO FUCKING GET THEM

Why, you may ask? Well, that’s because the Dark Sea is actually treacherous after enough expeditions and curses from Undead Zeus himself, and trading’s just kind of… eugh. Probably sucks.

“So you just don’t wanna put work in?”
Exactly! See, why would I do all of this when, chances are, the build is already going to be outdated by the first boss added in Nimbus, anyway?

“Wouldn’t you be at a disadvantage against the bosses?”
Remember when you thought Calvus was hard because you fought him at level 95 and then had to actually learn attack patterns? It’ll just be that again, except I’ll win faster because I’m BETTER. I’m not here to optimize a perfect bosskiller build, I’m here to painstakingly tear away at them limb by limb until I feel the glory of my victory.

also there’s probably only one or two new bosses anyway, still, watch as their gear makes you look at your sunkens and wonder why you even indoctrinated yourself into thinking that fishing for 10 hours is a good investment

“What about other players?”
Shit, uuh… I dunno, I guess I’ll just get better at the game.

Anyway, who else has this train of thought?

I’ll update my build if the nimbus sea gear is actually good

if you just wanna pve you can run literally nothing

Nobody has ever said this ever, if anyone actually said this to you they’re either messing with you or braindead.

i tend to make up dialogue between me and people who don’t exist dw about that

waiting until the update to drop to see how much of my build will be destroyed and nerfed, only then will i plan out a new build

I would like to say, those preparing their nimbus sea builds for absolute hell? Might be overprepping, at least for the “main” combat. However, those not preparing at all are just putting themselves at a disadvantage. Have some preparation, a scroll or 2 on a build maybe 1 or 2 pieces of modified gear. If you’re lucky, hell even a sunken. It doesn’t even have to be part of the build, just some spare parts to be added onto some new loot you get.

All builds will be less effective next update, including ones like these. Sunken gear value will probably drop next update, we’ll need to see how class gear plays out. I doubt sunkens will always be outclassed, they’re meant to last to the end of the game after all.

You’ve already addressed other players absolutely dunking on you, but have you stopped to think that npcs will dunk on you? Not the bosses, the level 260 ship captains we will be going to toe to toe with during naval combat or just when our ship gets attacked. Or when we fight our rivals who will have much more strength than us probably.

the naval captains would likely destroy you if you don’t know how to exploit their ai anyway, since boats are THE worst place to fight in aside from the open sea and don’t really allow skillful combat at all, chances are, we’d just have to pull up to a big enough island to run away and occasionally fire at them in

as for the rivals, we’ll pretty much grow at the same pace as them, though you obviously won’t be able to fight them head-on repeatedly and expect to win until you’re both at each other’s respective maximum level

Fair points, I also did neglect to mention that theres probably going to be those random spawning criminals / heroes at level 200 smth that will just go STEEL PIERCING SHOT 1500! after catching you off guard since no one will know bounty npc’s spawn locations.

that will be a frustrating inevitability, but we’ll learn where they spawn in the islands eventually

remember, to a new player (and any save slot that’s created after this friday), there is no year-long grace period between bronze and nimbus that allows for boss farming and dark sea expeditions, once they get the “depart from wind-row island” quest, they’ll do just that, the same as we did in the point between, say, redwake to frostmill or maybe fort talos to ravenna

probably with an entirely incomplete build, too (fucked up combination of iron and steel armor with a shoddy defense amulet, a yellow bandana, and like one boss drop)

“Well there’s my bounty, should be pretty eas-”
IRON PIERCING SHOT!

I would presume that, the average new player will get a boss drop from somewhere, see that bosses can drop stuff and go “hey, this shit is good, I wonder if they drop anything else”, and try to fight the boss again for another drop. It’s unlikely, but then again 50/50 they’ll quit AO if they don’t make that connection or read the tutorial tips on bosses (I think they mention mirages and drops?).

Meanwhile, we have Enzior doing the same general thing. He asks us to go into the Dark Sea and new players will probably enticed by the rewards he offers, assuming that they have a ketch or aren’t running edward since most miss him and still have a caravel. Somewhere in the Dark Sea they’ll find sealed chests and grab an exotic scroll or some slightly better armor than what they currently have.

While this does seem like a big leap for roblox players, if you manage to find/play AO and get past the first couple chapters you have more attention spawn than 99% of the platform and you’ll probably also look up a guide or 2.

They’ll have like okayish equipment, if they’ve beem traumatized by Calvus enough to try and get some real gear before entering Nimbus or seeing that the ships there are strong as shit so they get some new gear, they’ll have some like, barely passing equipment. Also, new players will do a chart or two and learn modifers exist and give free stats.

now that you mention it, that’s pretty sensible to me, most roblox players are content with looking up guides/wikis for the games they play (i’d have never gotten into deepwoken and 90% of roblox games i play if guides didn’t exist)

those who’d speed by with the Horrible Tragic Build i made up would probably end up being players like me, who just speed by the story because they thought “what if i made Goku” and want to reach the max level quickly, anyway

Nobody is putting themselves at a disadvantage for not fucking GRINDING AS IF THEIR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT

Thank you. Having that said, you can go in completely unprepared and nothing will happen. The game should be designed to be beatable with the same gear you have as you leave the bronze sea if you were to do the story in its entirety.

Don’t try to grind for stuff, because you’ll be preparing yourself too much you might be disappointed that the update does not live up to your expectations, and then there is also a good chance the items you have will be completely outdated

Tldr don’t grind for Nimbus like a dumbass

me because I don’t want to

I’m not
ima just keep the same build and try out armor piercxing with the arcanium gear other than that not touching my build

man I’m just afraid that players with already unfair gear are gonna make it even better and outclass me like crazy to the point I cant defend myself from any gank or 1v1 anyone with finished gear… this happened to me in dark sea update I don’t want that again

I haven’t even finished my dark sea build

relatable

I might be changing my build because mine just won’t exist anymore in the next update (intensity/def from Argos set on a light warlock to completely blind anyone for 10 straight seconds with 20-hit rushdowns) but chances are probably not, I don’t care if intensity doesn’t help my blinding anymore I’m just stubborn and busy

gems nerf messed me up but there isn’t a way in hell I am grinding it back up unless the new gear is an obvious upgrade

so now the best i can do is hope to god the new gear levels can cover it
(I have a perfect 201 agility with about 40 of the stat from my gems… what a dammed pain)
