i’m thinking about which one would benefit my theoretical character that i’m plopping into the world to judge this
for example, magic has a great capacity to advance society, such as scientific research becoming much easier or healing magic vastly reducing the cost of healthcare, and more magics can even still be made
but curses, only one person can have a certain curse at any particular time, and new ones can’t be made for future magics
basically, which world would i prefer to live in, one with magic but no curses, or one with curses?
Magic has more much more power for destruction than good. Magics that are effective for healing are far outweighed by every other type of magic. As long as there is magic, there will be evil mages, and some of those will be quite strong. There will be mages with the destructive force of nuclear missiles. I would rather have a world with less nukes than many more nukes.
The existence of magic is also troubling for social reasons since not everyone can use magic. If you can’t use magic you might be considered a nobody and there would be discrimination and sigma involved.
In addition to the nuclear missile mages, there will be many more mundane evil mages. This essentially means more people capable of great violence.
Magic can be used for healing, and it allows for some nifty trinkets, but the cons far outweigh any benefit gained.
statistically Prometheus is the most logical but the magic he taught took life force and shit and it was more because you needed Aureum from him: KING ARTHUR TAKE ME IN.
