Cause darkness is often associated with evil. There are probably a good amount of examples of darkness/shadow powered characters that aren’t edgy, but they’re outweighed by the ones that are.

Obvious isn’t it ? I have existed for thousands of years, and in my first life I was a Mage controlling Shadow and Darkness Magic, and my name in that life wa Edgy, that’s where the term comes from.

Is it edgy to be evil though? Like an evil character who just wants to rule. Does that make the character edgy? Oh and they don’t use shadowy magick.
No. You can be evil and not be edgy, entirely possible.
To be edgy is to be “cool” more or less but typically just through being a loner who wears black and is cynical, or something along those lines. Hard for me to really define it, kinda like trying to describe a color.
My OC Raven could be considered Edgy is some ways. He wears black and tends to stick to himself. Also hates to listen to people in power unless it benefits himself (Or his best friend) in some way.
though he has a predicament to harass (like for information about themselves) anyone he finds mildly interesting.
