Why is this “common” item so rare I just wanna upgrade my deckhand 
You ever try looking for something in a small pool of related items, and only ever get anything other than what you actually want? Now imagine that, but the pool is the size of the Atlantic Ocean.
Only semi-reliable way to find Notebooks is to get them through Merchant Deckhands/Ships, but they’re far from guaranteed. Apparently Traveling Jewelcrafters are now a thing too, so there’s even less of a chance to get a normal Merchant on ships.
Ngl notebooks should drop from bookshelves

Main issue is this common item actually used to be common.

Just replace weapon skill tomes, those aren’t needed anyway
Anyone who plays the game for longer than an hour will have more than enough skill notes from basic weapons to last them for the entire time they play

“Common tier item” what a freaking lie…
As strange as this method sounds I prefer more items being obtained from just doing different things like how mc does it instead of doing a stupid luck-based grind that eats up your time
can you buy gems from them (not jewels)
i mean, is it really ‘grinding’ in this context when presumably youd get every notebook you need for a maxed navigator in 5 min or so given the super high drop rates from bookshelves
