the main advantages of gun/firearms are range and the fact that anyone can use them, a child can use a gun to kill a well-trained warrior no issue (assuming it hit but the fact that its a feasible possibility is already a big fucking thing)
meanwhile in AO the humans have superhuman strength and durability so that allow them to send out ranged air slashes and shockwaves as well as quickly closing the distance between them and their opponents, meaning guns, while still deal higher damage, is not as useful
however, the most important factor might be the fact that firearms have a âfixedâ damage, to, canonically speaking, deal higher damage with a gun you need to make better guns/bullets, pressing the trigger harder or some shit wont make your attacks any stronger
meanwhile, which other ârudimentaryâ weapons, if you swing harder, you deals more damage
ofc, you would also need better weapons to withstand the force you deal out but imo its a lot less costly and the fact that in order to be stronger at using melee weapon you will need to strengthen your body itself, so basically two birds with one stone
guns probably also need this, yes, due to recoil and whatever, but imo will still be at a lower level since its still limited by technology level which progress rather slowly in arcane verse thanks to the existence of magic, war and world-ending/kingdom-ending/region-ending events that happen everynow and then, so its just more efficient to strengthen your body instead
theres also the cost of manufactoring ofc, why make guns and bullets, which as i stated before wont be of much used to the higher level humans of arcane verse due to their superhuman level physical prowess, when you can make better melee weapons that can be used for much longer and more reliable?

the truthful, unironic answer is just that vetex wanted it to look like that, heâs clearly a fan of game of thrones/asoiaf so he wanted to replicate that aesthetic despite itâs dubious connotations on the arcane lore
also to disprove this, AGAIN you need to remember that mages are the minority and kingdoms only have populations in the tens of thousands, mages are an oddity, and POWERFUL mages are abnormalities that are stupidly rare and unlikely to be accounted for by nations

iirc everyone has magic energy (literally life force from what i recall) in their body and can use that to amplifies their physical prowess through aura/tracing, so that would mean through enough training anyone can reach superhuman level of physical prowess right?
youâre assuming the average person WANTS to do this, the average person is just your casual unenlightened feudal underling, probably cant read, write etc. , likely will just die on a farm or other fundamental job like smithery
aside from militarized cultures from keraxe where this theory could lowk make alot of sense seeing as they use neither magic nor guns, this probably just doesnt really apply to the majority of people

still to a lesser extend imo, with melee weapon aka it has the force of both the enhanced weapon and the enhanced body of yours combined, meanwhile with the gun only the bullets become enhanced
