Why did Poseidon turn on Zeus?

In Cursebeard’s fight against Durza, we get this passage;

It doesn’t make sense because Zeus and Poseidon had before apparently worked together to kill Cursebeard, and were both under Durza’s control. Can someone explain this to me?

Took me a bit to get it too, I’m pretty sure it’s just weirdly worded. Everything after “After a while, it was just him and undead Poseidon remaining, who was also a high commander of the One Shot Pirates” was basically explaining how and why Poseidon had died. So it was exposition of the events prior to that passage, but because it’s in the present tense it sounds like it took place after said passage.

Durza just likes pretending they’re toys and made them fight to the death

Oh I didn’t even notice that part. I just thought that Poseidon was alive and fighting still, and came across undead Zeus and lost. It could be a mistake and Poseidon might’ve been alive, but if he was dead then there’s some speculations:

  • Poseidon still had his state of mind and willpower that carried on from when he was alive during the battle, and so he still carried out his duty as a commander of the One Shot Pirates.
  • Poseidon was fueled by memories of the past or some instinct that showed Zeus as an enemy.
  • Could also just be the undead being kinda mindless killing machines, but Durza had control over his undead army and his revived soldiers.

I wouldn’t overthink Arcane plot

Okay nvm what i first said

BlueYonder worded it perfectly.

This part just gives information on how poseidon died so that we would know why hes undead
