i can make fun of my short friend
This is why i want to be shorter
I’m stuck at being a bit above average height
wdym it takes more energy per stride for tall people
i’d say it just about evens out
what
short humans are on top!!!
because we be staying on chairs lmao
Well if I were to sent both into space, the shorter people are more cost efficient as tall people might have problems with blood circulation and need more sustaining. So its definitely not about that. What COULD be a factor is that animals often try to look bigger in order to intimate any threat, as generally women are the ones who prefer a taller partner I can assume that biologically women who prefered men who are “bigger” would survive more than those who did not. Its just a bit of biological scientific explaination.
Socially it just snowballed from a normal preference to a very common one.
Looking at the comments I see that some people pretty much said the same thing but hey, here’s my explaination.
I used to envy my friend who was like very tall (it was back in primary school and he was easily towering actual adults) until ive seen him hit the door frame with his head. Generally as he was my best friend I thought I was a shortie.
because being smaller usually correlates with malnutrition and so its naturally lead to a preference for larger persons such as myself
i am over 300 pounds (hello ladies )
say that in kg and maybe I’ll consider
i do not care for the opinions of europeans
but… but im not european
considering I’m genderfluid, I think I don’t like the idea of being tall because I like being between either sex’s height range. Feels more andro that way.
But, yeah, idk. Height is height, body fr said “get tall” or “stay small” it is what it is
Everyone in this topic is that rationalizing why being short is better than being tall is probably like 4’ 2
I don’t know about y’all but I wish I was taller
I dont see the point in favoring heights, both have ups and downs (literally)
Tall people get back problems
Short people get hard countered by the high shelf
Strength and speed
Being taller means having longer bones, capable of supporting longer and therefore stronger muscles.
And no, taller people don’t have bones more fragile. That only happens when one grows up too quickly.
Longer arms means more leverage when throwing things, fists included, an action that our ancestors used quite often.
Longer legs means that a single stride cover more ground and your leg is covered in more muscles, being able to move heavier weights.
There are advantages also at being shorter, but those are usually displayed in cramped places, like ease of movement and such.
But in an open field, where you can extend fully, reach is the dominant factor between death or life.
So yeah, in the end it’s a vestige of the past from when physical strength was way more relevant to one’s wellbeing.
Human beings are opportunistics by nature.
We like what is useful to us.
So of course stronger, more dependable men would be seen as more attractive than weaker ones.
This went on for hundreds of thousands of years, becoming part of our very instincts.
Now that physical strength is way less relevant, at least in the parts of modern society lucky enough, this notion will probably slowly be overwritten, but it’s gonna take way longer than half a century to prevail against a notion transmitted for the almost totality of the history of primates.
Let’s say that your proper BMI is 55kg and mine is 75. If you carry 20kg of stuff in your backpack it’s gonna weigh more than 1/3 of your body mass, while for me, it’d be less than 1/4, which is noot detrimental to my back’s health.
i’m 5’8 so i’m not rly that short but still a bit below average
i don’t rly think the ratio of carried weight to your body weight matters as much as the ratio of carried weight to your overall strength
if a 140 lb person and a 200 lb person both have the same strength, it won’t matter if a given weight is a higher percentage of the 140 lb person’s weight
Adding on to my prior statement and Ourobor01’s, being tall is also an indicator of fitness.
Greater height means that your energy consumption is greater, making your body need more food to sustain itself. A well-fed giant is therefore more appealing as it’s an external indicator of richness. Furthermore, it also means that your diet is well balanced as one’s height is influenced by what they eat.
As cloudcrosser pointed out earlier: humans grew shorter after the development of agriculture, but that is because they primarily sustained themselves with what they grew, making them lose out on necessary nutrients.
With these two factors in mind, how could tall people not be more appealing?
because I want to have heart failure at 63
