Yeah, I think of it as the one big Light symbol exploding into four smaller ones. The whole point of Aether is just Light Magic but explosive.

honestly i think its just a bug it does the same reaction with quite a lot of different magic
doesnt make much sense for anything other than light and shadow to create equinox reactions

According to Tech a long time ago, Aether does have a slight portion of lightning. If you clashed Aether with Shadow, it would look the same as a regular Equinox reaction except with blue splotches of energy, so I take that as the explosion sort of breaking Aether into its base elements.
