to be fair the other mutations follow a pattern. for example wind becoming speed. Wind is fast and related to mobility. Mobility, speed.
Fire, water > steam: heating up water turns it into steam.
water > ice: ice is cold water
fire > dark fire: shadow + fire
The mutated magic typically shares some fundamental property with the base magic

Ok, the point is that those are synergies, light had nothing to do with healing besides the fact it can mutate into life magic
shadow > sacrifice: Shadow is related to darkness, sacrificing is dark and associated with evil
shadow > death: Shadow is related to darkness, death is dark and associated with evil.
Shadow is associated with evil, and the actual element of shadow. So it makes sense that it’s an all rounder magic and potent to kill, and that it can darken someone’s screen
Similarly, in game, this implies light magic is associated with the gods or holiness and good.
