Is it called an Omen because it preludes the further, darker parts of the Dark Sea? An Omen because it is the first Abyssal-tier sea monster they’ve added in-game, and is simply showcasing the severity of them, and indirectly, Apollyon-tier sea monsters? Is it called an Omen because it is a bad sign of your fate to encounter it?

Maybe becus it’s so large it’s almost like a natural disaster rather than a creature? Natural disasters are usually considered Omens
Its called the omen because this fuck ass squid somehow curses me with a terrible omen whenever I try to kill him.
1st try: Wave threw me into the water
2nd try: Giant Kraken one shots the whole party
3rd try: Newly revamped magic tornado kills the entire party (we weren’t even close to it)
4th try: internet disconnected
5th try: Brig disappears mid-sailing (how does this even happen???)

to be fair, the easiest way to see a white eyes is by their white glowing eyes underwater. The distance you can see the body varies, but those glowing white orbs can be seen for MILES, and its usually how I find them underwater when I am out and about.
Besides, what are we gonna call it? Red Shark? White Eyes has so much more aura.
i have a little bit of an idea on the reasoning but its fully head canon and heavily depends on that one athena’s page theory about how the world is going to end when the dark sea fully engulfs all the sea clusters u know how the omen only spawns in the far reaches ? so if u were in a sea cluster and u suddenly see this mf u know that its already far too late for you and that the omen it indicates is the literal end of the world

It’s basically an omen for your fate. Sort of the last thing a sailor sees is a massive, writhing tentacle from an ink-black murky water and then moments later his whole ship is engulfed by a forest of skyscraper-high tentacles.
