Why is revealing so...bad?

issues i’ve had with revealing (particularly within the context of diving)

  1. drink revealing potion, it works as intended. sail to next diving spot with revealing buff still active, nothing lights up. forced to drink another revealing potion for it to work. (wasted potion) (THIS IS THE MOST COMMON ISSUE)
  2. 1st scenario happens, but after drinking the 2nd revealing potion, nothing happens, your buff disappears, and you can’t drink any potions at all anymore (requires reset character to fix) (wasted potion)
  3. drink a revealing potion, but ONLY pickups get highlighted and nothing else (e.g., seaweed)
  4. drink a revealing potion, but only SOME of the chests get lit up, the other half remain unlit, forcing you to drink another potion (wasted potion…again!)
  5. sharks seemingly, have a 50% chance to get revealed or not. if they do get revealed, they lose their marker upon being damaged once
  6. for the love of god, please give sealed chests and normal treasure chests a different revealing color
  7. there’s a small chance markers NEVER despawn, even after resetting. you can still see markers from across the ocean, even after revealing buff is gone
  8. back to #1, there’s a chance if you drink another revealing potion to light up everything, your revealing timer doesn’t replenish. basically, if you had 30 seconds left of your last revealing buff and drink another, you still only have 30 only seconds left. (more potions wasted…yay)

why on earth is this potion not fixed yet? my growth sap storage has been razed by these ridiculous bugs. #fortheloveofchristfixrevealingalreadygoodgodiamsotiredofthisBS

I believe there is a possible solution to this but it’s kinda stupid

Revealing potion while I was using it, is like a range-thing, when you drink the potion, the area you drank it in gets revealed but anything outside that range is not, pretty much like a hitbox before you have to drink another one in a different area to get all the revealing you acquire

I believe the solution for the bronze/chest problem is trying to figure out the size of the light (which is kinda hard), if the light is bigger, its sealed, if the light is smaller, it’s a normal chest

but yeah revealing kinda stupid :broken_heart:

i’ve had servers where revealing worked perfectly and as intended. if you have revealing buff, everything gets revealed as you go near. but what you described is what happens in 90% of servers

yes, but it should be changed. at a distance the lights look practically the same and it just ends up being confusing trying to find that last chest you need.
it would be annoying if seaweed was the same color as chests but a slightly different size. its just unnecessary and dumb

Morock uses the revealing potion to see Goku without clothes on and then he aims for the vitals fr :fire:

From what I’ve seen, revealing only affects objects that were loaded while the effect begun, stopping players from moving to another structure and seeing the location of all Fort Castrum soldiers at all time.

this always happens to me for a reason or another, hence why I try to avoid using revealing potions at times

revealing lights up the current ‘interactables’ in a set area, not new ones that appear

wait you use revealing frequently? think thats the main issue

I thought that this was fixed after vetex changed the highlight from an edge light to the weird white blobs?

yeah it used to use highlights but you can only have a limited amount of highlights visible at the same time, so he changed them to billboardguis like they are now

doesnt explain why other times it lights up new diving spots without needing to drink another revealing pot

sounds like a terrible oversight

unnecessary. why are seaweeds a different color then? why are enemies/players orange? sealed chests and normal chests are totally different items, they should be different colors.

yes, if you read the post above, you can see the various bugs that cause me to use a lot more revealing potions than i have to. and no, im not gonna dive in pitch black darkness without revealing potions (torture)

also a bonus #9th reason:

  1. when you pick up a seaweed, its marker disappears. when you pick up and let go of a sealed chest, it floats up to the surface and its marker follows
    …but when you open a treasure chest, its marker doesn’t disappear, even long after the chest itself despawned.
    if you were to go out of the revealing range and back in, only then will the game remove its marker
    or not…these bugs all meticulously work together to make revealing terrible. nothing is 100% guaranteed when youre talking about the hellish entities known as revealing potions

This part is particularly annoying when you can’t find the last chest in a diving spot
It’s unclear whether you simply swam past one or it’s on the other side of the diving spot due to all the residual markers from opened chests

they fall under the ‘chest’ catagory

sealed/normal chests are still completely different items.

i dont know what’s the point of being against a simple color change. i dont care about sealed chests, im trying to farm sunkens. sealed chests just confuse and slow down the process for no reason.

please do note that completing a diving spot requires opening all of the treasure chests, you can literally ignore every sealed chest. treasure chests are more important and should be a different color then sealed

happened to me yesterday,

made my first revealing potion (heard great things about it)
was raiding fort castrum for the first time, didn’t find the guy

later my game crashed at 7/10 :frcryin:

theyre labeled under the catagory chests, so the game thinks both are chests (they are, but different subcategories)
the problem lies within the fact that the revealing pot looks at the catagory, not the sub catagory (which is a good thing because otherwise reagents and catalysts would get a different color)

youre contradicting yourself because the game already does differentiate between sealeds and treasure chests(sealeds have a larger marker, but both have the same color)

so the game already sees sealeds and normal chests as different, so just change the color for one of them

pickups all use the same marker and color because the game sees them all as the same

I remember when I used to clear out underwater structures while revealing pointed out the outline of the objects instead of just glowing balls
If you finished an underwater structure with revealing, it often times ended up getting revealed too, a.k.a. there was now a huge outlined chunk

Small chance? That happens to me every time.
