So far all of the seas in the war seas have their name for a reason (that we know of), for example, bronze sea is monopolized by Ravenna (land of bronze), nimbus sea has a lot of sky islands, to the point there’s an entire kingdom about it, marauding sea has a lot of pirates (marauders)
And Aegean Sea is… blue I guess (I think it’s azura)? (Vimir is kind of an outlier here, but I’m sure it will be explained)
My personal theory is it has something to do with the elevated number of separate kingdoms within it, leading it to be a sort of chimera
Would be interesting if the sea there has higher than normal levels of magic pollution. Meaning the creatures there are going to be more mutated, and the environments like what @sock said are going to be more chaotic in a way.
Probably due to the Thorne Empire and Ryujin Dynasty.
Most of the warring kingdoms we’ve seen so far have been from different seas (Sameria vs. Keraxe, Nimbus & Vimir. Azura vs. Keraxe, Aegean & Vimir. Ravenna vs. Thorne, Bronze & Chimera).
There are exceptions like Winterveil and Ravenna both being in the Bronze Sea, but the norm throughout the War Seas’ history is probably for one side to be wiped out very quickly, as seen with Winterveil.
I speculate that Thorne and Ryujin have both occupied the same territory for much longer than normal, maybe even a historical record. And due to this, people began to see the sea as a chimera, a collection of parts that don’t match and heads that can’t agree, but are ultimately stuck in the same body.
This would be cool too, I honestly hope both the “Thorne vs. Ryujin” idea and the “There are literal chimeras in it” are true. Would be cool to fight monsters like that, and of course it would draw a parallel between the wildlife of the War Seas and its kingdoms. Maybe we’re all no better than animals.
Chimera sea is actually the conglomeration of the seven seas that connected to the war seas, all of this caused by acheron, peacekeeper, the order of aesir and ruby roger
