Explosion is instantly outclassed by Water, and ash is bad. Ash has low damage compared to other magics, and it’s synergies are bad.

Explosion is fairly common, easily one of the top 10 magics if not more common. It would have been my first magic had I noticed it, my eyes seen Magma and was hooked. Explosion is a pretty average-ish magic with high destruction and is pretty “cool” so people are more willing to go for it.
Ash on the other hand is fairly uncommon among people. Most new players find cooler options (lightning, poison, aforementioned explosion, shadow) and experienced players don’t like the potential lag that Ash can produce. It’s arguably the best magic to fight Exiled with though so it has something going for it.
I don’t think fire is as common because people who would go for fire instead go for plasma, probably thinking it’s a stronger form of it cause “plasma is hotter than fire” or whatever. If I ever really get into magic again I might go with Fire magic
