I’m still analyzing WoM, I guess. So my friend, the other owner and builder for my remake, wanted to know a while back if the Riverville banker slept in the blue bed or the green bed when they went to sleep. They found cases of both, so I went in to check. After a number of data points, it turned out that a majority slept in the blue bed aside from a singular outlier who slept in the green.
Now, initially, we thought bankers that wore suits slept in the green bed because all the ones in the blue had jackets, but that was disproven when two different suit-wearing bankers slept in the blue one as well. So this got me curious as to just how exactly shopkeeper WoM civilians pick their beds when there are two. I found similar examples with other NPCs, like the Riverville material seller. There is presumably a majority choice, but sometimes the NPC chooses to rest in a different bed.
As is evident here. Normally, Tavern Keepers in Ironport sleep in the room where no combat NPCs spawn (aka the other one), but here one was found sleeping in the larger guest room.
It’s interesting how this works, but maybe there’s a small chance in the code for civilians to sleep in a different bed than the usual ones, because most seem to lean towards one of two possible beds. It’s also unknown yet if a civilian always sleeps in the same bed or can switch choices. More research is needed.
