World Bosses aim to make exploring a tad more interesting. This events will take place randomly although some events can only take place during night, day, storms etc. World bosses will provide rewards worth getting as to make them sought after rather than ignored.
Instead of piling up a bunch of world bosses I’ll just suggest one to keep it simple.
Storm jaws:
Storm jaws is a behemoth level sea monster that has a chance of spawning during a storm. Before storm jaws spawns the players on the servers will be notified via chat, crew and npcs on islands that there is an uneasy feeling during the storm.
Storm jaws spawn will be random if no one is at sea else it will prioritise a nearby player who is sailing at sea. Players will be notified of storm jaws approximate location.
On spawn storm jaws will create lightning around him which will strike randomly and periodically. These attacks can damage players and their ships. Storm jaws will move really fast and paralyse players if they are hit for at least 33% of their max health. Storm jaws will discharge lightning around themselves every 2 seconds similar to a self explosion and will be able to move as it discharges. Storm jaws ultimate attack will charge up a beam that will target a random player, after a few seconds the beam will be unleashed at high velocity dealing massive damage.
This boss will be tough and may require multiple players to team up in order to defeat it.
Drops:
Charged tooth - a reagent used in brewing the storm potion. A potion which causes the players attacks to discharge lightning.
Storm mantle - a piece of equipment that increases the wearers run speed greatly and power
Rare spell scroll discharge - a spell that causes the player to combust every 1.5 seconds for 6 seconds. The player can move while this spell is active.
Eye of the storm - A weapon forged from the eye of storm jaw.
Good idea, though I think you should elaborate on the drops more.
I will say that I’m not entirely a fan of any serverwide pseudo-scheduled events. I don’t know how to fully explain it, but feeling obligated to constantly participate in rare serverwide events can be really degrading and also break immersion/flow (the obligation coming from the drops). Despite that I think this suggestion could work even though I’m not a fan of the premise.
sounds absurdly difficult to beat. You can’t get anywhere close at all or you take constant damage and you can barely hit it because he’s super fast. Also the drops extrmely mid. Charged tooth is pointless because we already have a lightning potion reagant, storm mantle is our 3rd agility power armour, and eye of the storm and discharge are poorly explained.
Well in terms of the speed, it’d be like calvus where there would be down time to hit storm jaws between abilities and what not. Being close to this sort of creature should have it’s downsides so in my opinion it’s fair and obviously the damage can be adjusted accordingly. Also the boss is supposed to be tough but not impossible so numbers and parameters can always be worked around.
As for the drops,
I didn’t make anything super crazy here since this is not the main focus of the suggestion rather the random event and boss itself.
the charge tooth can be a stronger and permanent version of the potion. The mantle i had better ideas for but didn’t want to make it a powerful item locked behind a rare event because I know that the AO community wouldn’t be happy about that. Hence I changed it last minute and nerfed it a lot.
The discharge is pretty straight forwards a constant self pulsar essentially around the player for a short duration which the player can move around after usage.
You can’t punish a player for being “too close” to a sea monster, you have to be close to them so you can hit them especially with shark hunting weapons
discharge sounds alright i guess, kinda useless tho. Nobody will ever be in range for it to deal damage unless it’s as huge as pulsar.
overall it’s just an underwhelming boss when every other sea creature/monster has drops that are unique and useful
Love the idea of a sea monster boss that spawns randomly in storms but I feel like it’s a tad too powerful and that multiple players are required would be annoying
