how lenient is this? could i just say “death” and the wish knows that i want everyone to die? or could i wish for any 1 syllable word but in my mind i imagine it as something that is multiple syllables?

You still need to provide enough information, the idea behind no logic twists is so that if you for example wish:
I wish I had a billion dollars the wish doesn’t get granted as you HAD a billion dollars but don’t have it anymore.
So no you can’t just say “Happy” and expect the world to spontaneously combust cuz you imagined the world exploding.
