Introduction
Since it’s still winter break and I have loads of freetime to kill, I decided to completely revamp the Magic Council, adding new ranks, reorganizing the structure, and some more quality things I feel are necessary.
Organization and Structure
The Magic Council will be organized into three different divisions - the Scout Division, the Guard Division, and the Assault Division. The purposes of each of these units should be clear, but I’ll explain a bit more on their duties and responsibilities.
Unit Command
Each division is commanded by a Justiciar, highly skilled and experienced Magic Council flag officers that are the most strongest in the organization, second to the Council. In their staff are two Wardens, the second most highest achievable rank in the Magic Council.
There are only 3 Justiciars and 6 Wardens at a given time.
Scout Division
Lightly equipped and mobile, the Scout Division is one of the three units that make up the Magic Council, it’s members being responsible for going on reconnaisse missions to find criminal bases and observe illegal activity in Magnius.
In order to remain quick on their feet, scouts only carry themselves their day’s worth of rations and their gear to carry out their missions. However, all of this mobility comes at a cost. The lack of armor and protection increases the likelihood of injuries and causalities on the battlefield, and is one of the many causes of death in this division. Some scouts might wear light armor to negate these risks, at the cost of a fraction their speed.
Members of the Scout Division are seen as the most strict and active of all of the three units in the Magic Council, with scouts being awarded with honors and even respect from flag officers higher up the ladder.
Guard Division
The Guard Division consists of trained and skilled men, their duties being to defend Magic Council bases and the cities of Magnius. Unlike the Scout Division, they are not constantly on the move, and such, can wear armor and carry gear. Many guards that are stationed in cities often enjoy their freetime in pubs and bars, drinking away.
Guards are seen as ‘dumb’ by the rest of the rank-and-file of the Magic Council, and often lazy. Though despite these stereotypes, they are capable in their own right and can quell enemy raids on the settlements they protect.
Assault Division
The Assault Division is the most heavily armed and armored unit in the Magic Council, equipped with all sorts of gear that allow them to raid large, dangerous enemy outposts and camps. They are expected to execute these operations and missions as quickly and precisely as possible.
Soldiers of this division get along well with the Scout Division. They share many things in common, and they all see the Guard Division as lazy and dumb.
Ancillary Brigade
The Ancillary Brigade is a unit that assists the three divisions in certain aspects not related to combat. Members of this unit compose of logistics officers, medics, cooks, and engineers.
Logistics officers manage and ensure that provisions are being supplied to Magic Council outposts and bases through supply lines. They are arguably the most clean people in the brigade - probably even in the entirety of the Magic Council. Many soldiers see them as annoying and prideful people that brag about their fresh kits and their unblemished uniforms, but some keep a logistics officer close by for ‘charity’.
Cooks are well-respected people, making meals and rations for the soldiers enjoy. Everyone in the Magic Council respects and doesn’t mess with medics and them. Engineers are also one of the most respected people in the Magic Council, building outposts, bases, and repairing things that need it.
Ranks and Uniforms
Recruit
Recruits are soldiers-in-training that aspire to be fully-fledged Magic Council soldiers one day. Typically volunteers, they are sent to a rigorous boot camp where they will be drilled for a duration of 8 weeks until promotion.
Soldier
Once Recruits are cleared by their supervisor for promotion, they then become soldiers. Soldiers are the standard infantryman of the Magic Council, being expected to capture criminals and uphold law and justice.
Corporal
If a soldier meets the formal qualifications and requirements to become a NCO, they get promoted to a Corporal. Corporals have much more responsibilities and duties as a NCO, being the lowest rank with any authority. Corporals are usually seen on the field commanding small teams of 4-6 men, and usually assist their higher-ranking Sergeants in leading their more sizeable squads.
Sergeant
Bearing more authority, Sergeants are well-trained men that excel in the fields of combat and leading, and such, are given more command over troops. They are usually seen leading platoons up to 46 mens, which are commonly gathered to quell enemy raids or patrol areas.
Commissioner
After serving for multiple years and showing promising ability, Sergeants are given their final promotion, becoming a fully fledged Commissioner. As the name suggests, Commissioners are senior enlistees that have received a official commission, being seen more as officers than part of the enlisted men. Because of their knowledge and skill, Commissioners are usually the highest enlisted rank in a battalion, and serve as advisors to captains and lieutenants. Commissioners outside of combat are responsible for hearing out and listening to the concerns of the common people.
Lieutentant
Lieutenants are junior commissioned officers that command a company, a group of 100-250 men. In a battalion, they serve as staff to captains and higher-ranking officers in managing bigger units.
Captain
Captains are ranking officers with fleshed-out commanding skills and management. They command a battalion, a unit composing of 2-4 companies, rounding to about 400-800 men. If not in control of their own unit, then they are usually part of a flag officer’s staff. In dire cases, they are usually deployed to hunt down dangerous criminals that can level cities.
Major
Majors are senior officers expected to command a regiment, which is a group of roughly 1800 men. They are only seen on the field in large military operations or if they are hunting extremely dangerous or notorious criminals. Bearers of this rank are given more cosmetic freedom through accessories and hats.
Warden
Wardens are flag officers that command brigades, large groups of men composing of three regiments. Wardens are also largely responsible for the sentencing of highly dangerous criminals. They oversee large prison complexes, and sometimes engage in combat if needed. The most senior Warden commands the Ancillary Brigade.
Justiciar
Justiciars are the highest possible rank that can be achieved in the Magic Council, however, there are only three at a given time. Each Justiciar commands a division, which are the Scout, Assault, or Guard Divisions.
Might add more later on if I get any ideas. For now, enjoy my creation I decided to make.
