Wotan and his son's more common names

Just so you guys know Wotan, Donar, Tiwaz, Baldur, and Jarson are all uncommon names for various Aesir gods from Norse mythology. Here are the names that they are more commonly known by:

Wotan = Odin
Donar = Thor
Tiwaz = Tyr
Jarson = Loki
Baldur = Baldur

Additional fun facts:

  • I’m pretty sure the name “Jarson” is derived from “Laufeyjarson” which means “son of Laufey” since in Norse mythology Loki is the son of the giants Farbauti and Laufey.

  • Wednesday is named after Odin, Thursday is named after Thor, Tuesday is named after Tyr, Friday is named after Freya/Frigg (they are often conflated)

  • Thor’s hammer does not required to be “worthy” in actual Norse mythology. Instead it is just absurdly heavy, with Thor, using his strength-enhancing belt and gloves being the only one who could effectively wield it as a weapon. Because of this, Thor’s hammer was once stolen, forcing Thor to crossdress in order to get it back.

  • Norse gods are pretty weak compared to gods in other pantheons. One of the reasons for this is that they aren’t either type of immortal. They are killable, and will die of old age without access to Idunn and her golden apples.

I highly recommend that anyone reading this look further into Norse and Greek mythology. I also would love to hear theories in this post’s comment section about the aspects of Norse and Greek mythology in Arcane Odyssey.

makes sense that they’re named almost after gods, given that they are by far the strongest people we’ve heard of in the game, ignoring randal

William Gilliam solos all of them unfortunately

It’s pretty funny how much this reminds me of the new God of War games (main character of Greek origins travelling to the Norse realm and fighting their pantheon) despite vetex never playing them

It is sad that Vetex said that Norse mythology isn’t canon, so in this universe they’re technically just very very strong humans

a fun gimmick I think would to be give Donar the ability to attract and retract his hammer (please let him use one) using the Lightning Curse as a form of electromagnetism, but idk if we would encounter him as a boss

other things I want to see are Wotan using runes in a sense, like throwing Wood magic disks with symbols that bind, explode, and other stuff I’m not creative to come up with

Baldur being alive could also be interesting if we end up being manipulated or coerced by Jarson (Loki) to kill Baldur, like how in the original mythology the blind Höd is manipulated into killing Baldur with a dart of mistletoe. Maybe replace the dart of mistletoe with like a ballista bolt made from Wotan’s magic?

Well they’re kinda like that in actual Norse mythology anyway.
