Alright so for context, while waiting for the next AO update, I create more slots on AO, complete the current story with them, and then create whole entire lore for that slot. I managed to create lore for 2 of the slots, making even a journal for one, but when I start thinking of the next slot, I’m basically blocked…
I’m supposed to be writing about Rune Edge (the fellow in the image). But when I try to put finger to keyboard to type out his lore, it comes up blank, but somehow, I’m able to update the 2 previous slots (Rodrigo Autumn and Shay Phoenix) giving them new stuff each time T-T… Any ideas on how I can solve this?
Can sometimes help to make a document with all the ideas you have while you wait to find the motivation to write. Alternatively, you may be a bit tired of writing character lore, and should try something else for a bit first.
Sometimes, though, you do have to force yourself. If you really want to get on it now, set a timer and open the document. Thirty minutes to an hour should be good. You aren’t allowed to do anything else while that timer is running, and if you have to, you pause the timer.
I wish you happy writing! Or, failing that, I wish you satisfaction in what you write.
What helps me with writers block on a new character is taking inspiration from the various amount of people I’ve met in life. Placing my perception on who they would be in this world and go from there.
Could be someone you know IRL, online or even from your favourite source of fiction.
As long as it’s inspired, you can come up with all kinds of ways to create new and interesting characters.
In my opinion, if writing stories feels less like enjoyment and more like work, take a break. You may be suffering from burnout, especially if you hit the ground running.
Take me for example. When I started writing my AA adaptation, I hit the ground running. I’m pretty sure the first 5 chapters were posted in a span of less than 2 days. And then I hit a wall when I started working on Doom Island. It took me 2 months to write chapter 5, and it wasn’t as enjoyable. I took a break and got my spark back (well, I also ranted on the forums a bit about how I was down b/c my view count was low). I actually had another writing project, but I stopped working on that to focus on my adaptation and also cuz I was burned out. Sometimes you’ll have to force yourself but don’t push yourself too far.
This may not be helpful but from a fellow writer, these are my tips.
Even though you’re a bit late, this will help me greatly in the future. Since once I’m done with all of their stories (In total about 9 slots), I plan to write a full lore doc or wiki that ties them all together
I do exactly that!
That’s why my book takes play 15 years after the main AO story.
I’m using AO as a reference to make my own writing
Fan Fic first, the original story after yk?
(shameless plug plz read my book:AO Spin-Off Novel: Lucian Vermillion)
