You PvP toggle people are actually insane

A pvp toggle would unironically kill the game, I’ve seen other mmorpg’s add this exact feature and you wanna know what happened? The playerbase died due to getting stronger no longer having as much significance.

One of the most fun parts in AO is the interactivity of the world, the game is thrilling because there is danger, there is no reason to get stronger if you can just say no to an attacker, unless you just like seeing numbers get bigger, and at that point just go play a mobile game dude. Watching your character grow doesnt mean anything if all that amounts to is dealing 220dmg instead of 200.

Dying to some random out of nowhere is a necessary evil, its one of the things that does make the game better if you spend more than 2 minutes thinking about it.

But no, little Timmy died to a player in a pirate game so he’s angry that he’s gonna have to wait 10 seconds until he respawns and pvp in this game is so badd vetex needs to add a toggle dead game!!1!. Actual children.

It’s not everyone else’s fault your computer from 2005 can only run the game at 5fps, dont play mmo’s in the first place if your laptop cant handle them, much less the ones with integrated pvp, take your positive rep players cant hurt each other, be happy, and quit complaining.

My Satanic powers has given me future sight

(There will be a lot of PvE Players in the thread, there will also be that one picture of Vegeta in a suit smoking)

Did I forget to mention that this thread will get locked?

here before the npc forumers call this bait (you like pvp so you should erase ur file irl!!)

yea, i like the inherent danger. there would be no reason to get the best gear if it were all pve

(not true)

but yeah, I like global PvP as long as it’s not like Deepwoken

So long as PvP is a random encounter side thing I am alright with no toggle

Lemme see if I understand what you’re getting at here: players being able to just sink my bloody ship and kill me out of the blue is healthy for the game? Me losing several thousand galleons is fair, all because someone way above my skill level has nothing better to do? It’s a “necessary evil” because it entertains the worst part of the playerbase?

Having an on/off toggle at will would be absurd, I agree. Being able to just deny someone when you’ve already agreed to fight would be pretty irritating. However, a system that kept the two communities separate (like designating a PVP/PVE file at creation) would, I think, make the game less hostile overall.

Also, this is Roblox, most players aren’t using quality gaming PCs. Why? Because a lot of them are kids, or haven’t dedicated their lives to watching virtual numbers go up. Not to mention Arcane Odyssey is already unusually harsh on PCs.

I’m just saying the inclusion of something like deepwoken’s chime would really cut down on the amount of these encounters

Jesus freaking Christ, I’ve been away from this forum for a year and theres STILL debates over this?!?!? Good lord man!!! After playing tons of Deepwoken, the pvp in this game isn’t even that big of a problem! I agree with you, but stop being so confrontational man. That just ain’t the way to convince people to drop it. All you’re doing is making them more defensive and aggressive to your stance. As of right now, it holds no weight as an argument and is even more useless than a paperweight made out of loosely clumped up feathers.

If you are unable to fight off random ship raiders/ambushers, dude you gotta get better at this rate, those people are some of the worst players in the game (even the 500 kill ones, they just seem to get their kills through build abusing rather than good fighting skill)
You dont even need to learn PvP directly, just learn how to escape bad situations

First off - calm down. People aren’t going to take you very seriously if you’re insulting them right off the bat with the title.

Danger is indeed present in the world, and some people like the thrill (and I’ll assume the thrill is the pvp.) However, you have to keep in mind that pvp isn’t the only thing that attracts the people to the game. While you may enjoy it, other people may not, and that’s something to consider.

From how I can see it, not really. It just serves as an unnecessary setback which can be pretty frustrating, especially since other than maybe renown, bounty (which can easily be fixed through paying the Navy/Syndicate,) and cargo, there isn’t really a good reason to kill a guy minding their own business.

As someone who doesn’t look into arguments all that much, is this a fallacy or something? It’s pretty aggressive and it doesn’t really try to actually provide an answer to any of the problems in the first place.

Overall, I’m just trying to stay neutral here and giving my own thoughts. If you want to give me your own thoughts, go ahead (just try not to get too aggressive.)

damn we on a roll with the controversial ao topics :fire::fire::fire::fire:

Thats fucking it
You’re on my PoS (Protect on sight)

PvE players vs PvP players in a pvp topic arguement:
Fan vs Fan

A PvP toggle isn’t the solution. However, some sort of way to solve the random fights, huge, levelled differences could be like a grace period within the first 1-3 seconds of a fight. No PVP for those first 3 seconds, something for the people who lag, and PHYSICALLY cannot keep up.

I’m one of the latter. I’ve said this before, I have nerve damage in my hands which results in both a tremor and loss of proper sense of touch. I’m just saying that something for those dealing with a physical disability should have SOME sort of change for them.

I understand if it is never added, but it would help anyone with tremors, or hand damage. It gives them SOME fighting chance. No PVP toggle, just the optional “grace period” for those who’d need it.

And finally, you didn’t need to be so rude, my friend. This is worded like bait, a way to get people angry, and it just makes me sad because you are angry at them for their opinion. There’s no need to be mean.

Don’t be mean, people. Be kind.

not taking a side here because it sounds too much like rage bait

A few changes we should have:

  • The spawning forcefield should last until you move or attack (why can people just kill you while you’re still loading in)

  • Low-rep players should NOT be on the bounty board. The only reason you would want to them on there is to deliberately hunt down and kill someone who doesn’t want to PVP despite the fact that you will gain nothing from it.

An elysium public opening would be nice to make it easier for players who want to PVP to find decent matches, but I believe vetex vetoed that just because he wants to use it for something else in the future

i’ve always been fairly neutral about the crackhead pve vs pvp player controversies, but i think this guy has a good point, even if worded a bit confrontationally

this arcane shit serious…

reading some of the things on here urges me to make an arcane odyssey terrorist organization.
