So I was writing something for my character Yuriko Storm but I probably went too far.
Yuriko’s the heir to the Storm Clan, a clan directly associated with the Grand Navy.
Warning, I guess its kinda long
–RUMBLING DEPTHS ARCHIPEL–
Rumbling Depths, baptized as such due to a mysterious phenomenon of undersea thunder, is a large region/archipels within the 4th Sea (To be fair, it could be any sea, there’s not enough AO lore to 100% determine where it would logically be placed) that is known for its abundant ressources of Arcane Salt, Fulgurites and Thunder Crystals, making it a prosperous region within the potion market and development of new technologies relying on Thunder Crystals.
The Eagle’s Tomb / Storm Peak
The main point of the archipel is known as “The Eagle’s Tomb”, where the Storm Clan resides above a massive Grand Navy outpost.
Its a massive peak, all thought not as high as the Stepping Sones, but wider noticeably wider and with larger surrounding stone structures, they’re curiously shaped as if they were going outward, like if something struck the area really hard.
Cave Of Thunder
The Eagle Tomb’s holds in its center a deep ancient cave leading to some form of temple, all thought it hasn’t been fully explored yet, many believe it to be where Zeus tomb resides.
The cave has an important source of Thunder crystals and Fulgurites, growing from every single inch of the cave, more of them appearing the deeper you go. All thought other islands and spires formations produce Thunder Crystals and fulgurites, those present within the Eagle’s Tomb are renowned for their higher neverseen quality, but appear to be more unstable and harder to extract, dangerous even.
Due to their unstability, attempts at extracting them have mostly lead in failures, with rare fruitfull results.
Exploitation
However, around 25-30 years prior to Yuriko birth, the Grand Navy & Storm higher ups have picked an higher interest in exploiting its ressources. The Grand Navy has started the construction of several power plants and mine shaft around the Rumbling Depths main sources, including Eagle’s Tomb. Despite the dangerosity of Eagle’s Tomb ressources, the Grand Navy seems to have found a way to safely but slowly, extract and utilize them.
The Order of Aesir is clearly involved with these advances, along Lai Nok Telas, a prestigious Grand Navy Major who mysteriously passed away, he was married to a woman from the Storm Clan. Most of his researches seem to have gone to waste or simply “disappeared”, all thought its clear some are currently being used within the navy.
How exactly the order managed to begin extracting those thunder crystals is unknow
Hint: Dark Sea, linger, only weakness,
GRAND NAVY PRESENCE
The Grand Navy has an outposts located directly within the Eagle Tomb, more precisely build ontop of it, the Storm Clan residence being placed higher and on other large stone structures. This directly allows the Clan members to receive protection and easy access to larger vessels, ontop of supervising the region easily.
Recently, a large Thunder Crystal “power plant” has been built, in goal of expanding the Grand Navy outpost, but likely going to be used to create larger and more powerful vessels.
Eagle’s Tomb Ressource
Fulgurites and Thunder Crystals extracted from Eagle’s Tomb were attributed with special names:
Thunder Crystals → Kairo Oluja Gems (Oluja being theSerbian word for “Storm”, and Kairo meaning “Circuit” in japanese, this effectively means this is a Circuit Storm gem)
Named after an alchemist who was first to explore the Eagle’s Tomb.
They’re usually much paler, with a lightning bolt formation inside of themm. They are known to change color occassionally uppon a lightning magic user using their powers, the crystals may or not take the same color as their magic. Unlike Fulgurites, Thunder Crystals usually are NOT consumed, as they’re not safe for consumption. However some weirdo named Yuriko Storm keeps doing so, like hard candy.
Fulgurites → Blists (from the serbian " blistavo ", meaning “dazzling” in english)
They grow in an unique way, developping in a path with the least resistance and expanding itself in some sort of “conduit” or “circuit”, this habit is more frequent the closer to Eagle Tomb’s they are, and the purer too. Locally, they’re called Tonitrua and are a known delicacy, often being candied, they have an energizing & shocking feeling that may surprise newcomers, some more extreme fulgurites can deliver electrical shocks over an extended period of time to the consumer when consumed.
WEATHER SPECIFITIES
A few phenomenons and things unique to the region:
“Sea Rumble” or “Under Sea Thunder” is a phenomenon of extreme eletrical discharges being unleashed underwater, it manifests as extremely powerful & large bolts of lightning conjuring under water. This causes large thunder rumble sounds to erupt from the sea.
The more extreme version are known as “Zeus Sneezes” a short explanation is that they’re sea rumbles that are concentrated in one single splot, making the area prompt to extremely dangerous releases of electrical energy
“Heaven Tower” is a phenomenon where large formations of thunder crystals and arcane salt suddendly forming in the sea due to the high amounts of lingering disolved arcane salt, causing a reaction with the natural thunder crystals forming. This causes a reaction between the two, an high amount of energy being released by both ressources, forming a large tower like crystal constructions. Occassionally, the deadlier version of this occurs : They can form from above, meaning that a sky tower can descend from the sky and onto an innocent ship, easily destroying it.
Despite those phenomenons, the region remains habited, as those aren’t common occurances on its entirety.
SUB-ISLANDS
There’s 4 other smaller islands, under the protection of the Storm clan and by proxxy the Grand Navy, a similar situation to Palo Town.
Far day island: “Why is the day so far?”
The island is unfortunately victim to abnormal amounts of storm’s, which have gotten even worse in the past 30 years. Named “Far day” due to how long you’ll be waiting for the day to rise, wondering when you’ll be seeing that sweet sun. Its blocked out by the heavy and constant storm’s lingering around the island.
Culture
Far Day inhabitants seem to hold onto the beliefs of Pridam, an almost divine like figure to them, the idea of holding onto faith and always seeing the positive side of things with that faith. They hold a great importance to blood, seeing it as the essence of life, being red like love and anger. Pridam sacred books teach that as long as one bleeds, it is equal to you and apart of you.
around their island.
Geography
As of its geography, the island is actually right next to that of Aritown, in the past some stories explaining that both islands were actually one singular island, all thought its name isnt clear yet, its suspected to probably be “Arkh” / “Noe” or “Leon”. How exactly it was split in two is unknown, the informations about it seem heavily manipulated, edited and unclear, they dont add up.
The Island inhabitants are still rather happy despite their conditions, relying on fishing and fulgurites farming.
Ecosystem, Ressources & Economy
Their “green life” is more of a “cyan & yellow life” due to how the plants there are quite literally all infested by fulgurites wildsprouts, giving them more electrical properties. The inhabitants, surprisingly aren’t named “Fardayians” but rather “Caligo’s” and “Dawneds”. They seem to be habitued to living in the dark, all thought their genetic lineage and traits seems rather different compared to the other islands populations. Due to its climate, the population there is more poor than the surrounding island’s populations as the exploitation of ressource’s becomes harder.
Only making it worse, the surrounding islands and the Storm Clan refuses to buy their fulgurites at a reasonable price, instead forcing them to lower it considerably
Habitants appearance
Caligos are mostly recogniseable by the rare white strand that appears in their hair occasionally, its not fully known yet as of why.
Background/History
Caligo’s or “Dawneds” genetic lineage or appearance, is vastly different to that of other Rumbling Depth Islands inhabitants. This is due to the fact that the population living there is not native to the island or the region as a whole but rather imported from another kingdom, known as “Niht” (Night) who had colonized the island before the storm clan.
The Island was most likely desert of life before tha Kingdom intervention, the oldest trace of the population existence on that island dating back to around Y1690. Once the Storm clan fully expanded with the help of the Grand Navy Kingdom, the Niht Kingdom determined that it would be wiser to give up on the island, wishing to avoid conflict with the Grand Navy at the time.
So, they simply let go off their habitants in there.
Unfortunately it appears the Niht Kingdom later on was […]
Unique Trait
Caligos are adapted to living in the dark, being capable of having a vision comparable to that of someone who drank a Clearsight 2 to 3 potion during the night. This trait originates from the first kingdom they came from.
A comparison often made by people from the Bronze Sea is that Far Day is simply the Tiberia of the “Rumble Sea”, simply more stormy.
Ingame: It would probably be the first island you explore, the locals there being much more friendly and laid back. The player would later on go back there for training and learning new things
Aritown Island : “Welcome to modernity”
A much more prosperous island, despite Far day presence right next to it, it has little to no storm, being considered a very touristic spot and “relaxing place to live in” according to outsiders. Its not really anything special beside tourism really, as bland as unseasoned chicken breast if you want to do anything else. Most people there are however overworked, a major part of the native population constantly working to welcome large amounts of tourism, leading to them being funnily enough less happy than Far Day island inhabitants, its deep within their culture to believe that “overworking” is good. A lot of underground crime and violence happens, hidden away from the tourists. Only focusing on its tourism, the leaders there dont seem to realise the environmental damage all their activities seem to leave lingering around, not paying attention.
Habitants appearance
up to interpretation.
Geography
Aritown has several beaches and beautifull scenery, with its water being dazzling blue, almost glowing with sparks of thunder due to the dissolved thunder crystals resting there.
Unique Trait
Beside their will to be overworking near constantly?
Arkeans are pretty good workers, I guess. They handle pressure well
Ecosystem, Ressources & Economy
Aritown is a quite rich island, relying on its tourism. But the island dirigeants fail to realise how much said tourism is damaging their ecosystem due to its intensity
Background
Inhabitants of Aritown are a mix of 2 population, now united under the name “Arkeans”
Ingame: would be a secondary place to visit, with a few side quests but intended to be resting peacefully. A lot of deckhands could be found there and possibly cameos of certain characters at random occurances
Facts:
- Each of the islands in the Rumbling Sea Archipelgo is named after real life important figures of electricity.
- The region would mostly be a mix of serbian & japanese culture, Aritown taking after Japan modern work culture and trends.
- Far Day & Aritown are based off the Hispaniola island and Haiti / Dominican Republic situation, all thought not being a 1.1 copy or supposed to be entirely accurate. The fact that they’re even closer than Aritown and Far day, being literally next to each other and on the same island yet one is in complete chaos and struggles meanwhile the other is prosperous and peaceful.
- However here, one is prosperous/rich but chaotic meanwhile the other one is poor/unadvanced but happy.
- The Storm Clan was probably apart of the Grand Navy when it was a kingdom, likely related to some of their nobles or being more prestigious warriors.
- To be honest any lore about the current islands can be imagined in any way you’d like, Any further lore is free of expansion and such, imagine anything you want about it.
- The Storm Clan is rather great in number and influence.
- I’ll probably be too lazy to write the 2 other islands, or just forget it. But one of them is pretty large and would likely have karate users. The other one would just be… hell, you would not want to live there due to orderly reasons.
- Caligo’s will never know about Palo town fruit shop
- Caligo’s are observed to have a lot of shadow mages amongst the people who pratice magic on Far Day island.
