I would’ve picked human but the lack of passives discouraged me (also because lifesteal is amazing)

A part of the Magic system I’ve been working out is Fusion Magic types, and since I want the player to learn at least two as a part of the storyline (that I’m still making characters for please kill me), I need to have every Source Magic be able to fuse with each other.

Problem is that not only will a lot of types generally be similar, but there’s also the fact that I’ll have to reach a bit for some types. I really don’t want to take most of the Lost/Ancient Magics from an old WoM list, since the game is already heavily inspired by it, so stuff like Slash Magic is out the door. If y’all have any ideas, please shoot me hit me up. Just note that any Fusion with a colored square is effectively finalized (other than Vanta, which I still need to think of a good name for).

There’s also some special Fusion Magics that I want to include, such as Storm (Water, Thunder, and Wind) and Blizzard (Ice, Snow, and Wind; only if I actually end up including Snow as a Magic Type), but that’s a bridge I’ll cross when I get to it.

Oh and uh funny story, when I was making all those folders for the Source Magics, I kind of forgot to include Light Magic. So that’s there, now.

One more thing, here’s the current Notepad for a town called Stonewright, which I’m thinking would be near the first boss fight. Rivers, which is mentioned before the Demographics, is the starting town.

Hear me out, fire + water = steam

Currently on a school band trip to Disney World; sitting near one of the most annoying kids on the planet. If I hear one more “eat” or “she’s pregnant!!!” remark out of his mouth, I might just toss myself into a river.

Im fucking WASHED matey. I also forgot about Light + Earth = Crystal

My goat is washed?

I’m BACK! And with two more cats that my older sister caught from our back porch! CDS either loves us or hates us

I’ll send y’all pics of the two when I can. The first one caught seems to be a Maine Coon; his name is Ziggy. He was afraid of me at first, but warmed up super quickly after I gave him some treats and a string to play with. The other one doesn’t have a name or even a known gender, hiding behind a pink chair in my brother’s old room. She took treats from me, but hasn’t come out of her hiding spot yet.

Anyway…

Added Steam (thank you @MrYes), Crystal, Cacaphony, and Superbolt Magic to the Fusions chart (along with the other ones that I added after listing those four out). If y’all couldn’t guess by this point, any Fusion with Energy Magic is meant to be just a stronger or more unique form of the other Magic type.

Here’s some info on the first ones I added.

  • Steam Magic could possibly be a Magic Type focusing on the damaging clouds I wanted to include with Toxic Magic initially. Smog could focus on Energy-draining clouds, while Smoke could do both at reduced effectiveness.
  • Crystal Magic could steal the Crystallized Status Effect, but I’d rather toy with a more unique idea of making it form crystals in the ground that cause bullets to “reflect,” or change their direction of travel slightly upon an enemy bullet touching one. Crystal Magic spells would have a lot of bullets to compensate for this, so that you can’t just spam Crystal Magic spells and make yourself a shield; a lot of the pellets will still end up aiming at you.
  • Cacaphony Magic could revolve around inflicting a “Deafened” status effect, which would temporarily mute the sounds of Spells being activated, Counter Skills being used, or Potions being popped. This would come with Sound Magic’s status effect, which I’m thinking could make some bullets blend into the background when further from the player.
  • Superbolt Magic could revolve around inflicting “Thunderstruck,” which would reduce Movement Speeds by 10% like Thunder Magic’s “Shocked” status, along with maybe reducing Attack Speed by a bit?

Speaking of Thunder Magic, I was thinking of renaming it to Lightning Magic so its name would be correct (Lightning is bolts of electricity, Thunder is the sound), then making the Lightning/Sound Fusion named Thunder Magic, but I decided to build it into the game world instead as a misconception from Humans (and some members of other species, but mostly humans) gradually becoming mainstream over time. Might name the Thunder/Sound Fusion to Thunderclap, but if I can think of a more distinct name for it, I’ll do it.

Some more progress on the Fusion Chart today. Energy Magic now has all of its Fusions thought out (renamed Windstorm to Cyclone, replaced Earthquake as the Energy/Earth Fusion with Metal).

  • Vanta Magic would be an enhanced form of Darkness Magic; instead of all Spells being able to stretch up to 60% in length, it would be 100%, and at doubled speed.
  • Metal Magic would be able to “pierce” an enemy’s Weapon Counters, doing additional damage that other Magic Types wouldn’t get.
  • Blaze Magic would be able to destroy enemy bullets that touch the center of the Blaze Magic bullet, but only once and at the cost of making that bullet 25% smaller.
  • Life Magic would have enhanced Magic Energy draining with its status effect, and max stacks could invoke Lifesteal.
  • Iridescence Magic blinds targets and could “reflect” an additional bullet near itself when passing through an enemy bullet.
  • Cacaphony Magic mutes Attack/Potion Activation sounds, along with hiding enemy bullets at a distance when its status effect is active.
  • Superbolt Magic reduces movement speed by 10% and reduces Attack Speed slightly.
  • Disease Magic makes Toxic Magic’s Intoxicated status (literally AO’s version of the Poisoned status effect) stackable.
  • Flood Magic spells have bullets that switch between two modes. One has faster, higher-damaging bullets with less size, while the other has the opposite. Got the idea from thinking about that one cave in Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald that has the high-tide, low-tide gimmick.
  • Cyclone Magic could have slight knockback on hit and push back enemy bullets, depending on which one of those effects I give to Wind Magic.

These are all extremely rough ideas, and when I start trying to get the game to work with every Source Magic, I’ll start fiddling with them.

Which Energy Magic Fusions Would You Use?
  • Vanta (Darkness)
  • Metal (Earth)
  • Blaze (Fire)
  • Life (Flora)
  • Iridescence (Light)
  • Cacaphony (Sound)
  • Superbolt (Thunder)
  • Disease (Toxic)
  • Flood (Water)
  • Cyclone (Wind)

Aside from those, I added Plasma, Explosion, Megaflora, and Mud Magic; also replaced Hurricane Magic with Ice Magic. The fact that I forgot the one Magic (Ice) that my fuckin’ fursona uses is insane. Yes, this is an idea for a game within the little world I’ve been writing, fuck off

  • Plasma and Explosion are exactly what you’d expect. I wanted to think of something more original for Thunder/Earth, but there’s not a lot to go with.
  • Megaflora (literally large plants) is as basic as it sounds; Flora Magic, but bigger. Why is there a specific name for big plants? I don’t know.
  • If we can’t get Mud Magic in the funny Roblox game, then damn it, I’ll make the Mud Magic in a funny game with humans and furries beating each other over the head.
  • I was thinking of having targets hit with Ice Magic have ice physics, but that was tossed aside faster than you could say “uncle.” It might just have Frozen as a catalyst-type status effect.

Extra note, I moved Earthquake Magic to the Earth/Sound Fusion. Did a bit of googling, and if Google (without the god-damned A.I. results, seriously FUCK OFF I WANT TO SEE WHAT REAL PEOPLE ARE SAYING) says that a loud-enough sound can cause vibrations in the ground, then it makes sense. Earthquake Magic would likely be Earth Magic, but bullets can vibrate somewhat.

Now why am I making all of this when I haven’t even finished reading the Godot Masterdocs to start developing the thing? Mainly to save myself the headache of thinking of Fusions later down the line.

Doesn’t really matter to me unless weapons are affected by your magic

Weapons probably won’t be affected by your Magic. I am still putting thought into having Weapons be enchantable with your Magic, but it’s still a maybe situation.

Even then, enchanted/enhanced weapons would only take the strongest stat of the Magic they’re attuned with, so a lot of them would function similarly or identically in that regard.

i am now watching this topic curiously

It’s like Touhou (more like Nuclear Throne in gameplay terms, but Touhou is mainly what I think of since I’ve actually played it), combined with AA/WoM/AO. Pick a Species (all of them except for Humans have positive and negative traits), pick a Source Magic type (one of the eleven on the top row) to be your Base Magic (which will give you a special perk such as your bullets/spells gaining speed as more enemy bullets/spells pass through them for Wind Magic), and then go through a sort of story in which you join some bounty hunter in a hunt for some weird guy with a relatively new type of Magic.

That pair of you and the bounty hunter ends up growing to include more characters, such as a Kitsune who is basically my take on an Iris-like character, or a Vampire who serves as the wise guy every piece of media seems to have. Woohoo, storyline plan leaks!!!

Anyway, over the course of the storyline, you should be able to learn up to four more Magic Types: two Source Magics and two Fusion Magics, with the rest of them being learnable in the Post-Game through leveling up. You can only have up to three equipped at a time, but can swap anything other than your Base (First) Magic on the fly. There’ll also be some “secret” Magic types that you can learn independently of storyline progress, but those are a main plotpoint that I don’t know if y’all would want spoilers on.

Only hint I’ll give y’all for now on those secret Magic types is “Remnant of an old game’s original status as an anime fangame.” If you know, you know.

That could probably work. I’ll need to fiddle with it to make it different enough from Smog, but it’s something I like.

I did have a recent idea of making the Flora + Earth Fusion be Moss, but I like the Fungus Magic idea as well. Should I replace Wither Magic with Fungus or nah?

I mean, it would fit better with the whole ‘fusing two magics together’ thingo than wither imo

Yeah, main reason I thought of it was because “Plant + No light??? = Dead.” Wither could probably fit better as a Fusion of other Fusions, such as Disease and something else.

fire + toxic = torment (some sort of flame that slowly eats at you body)

Ehh, I feel like that’s a bit too out-there compared to the rest of the Fusion Magic types, or at least name-wise.

Maybe it could be called Wildfire or Wildflame? Wildfire smoke is pretty toxic IRL; could possibly serve as something that would cap your Magic Energy until its status effect clears or something similar.

light + sound = speed
light + water = prism maybe? difraction?
light + toxic just has to be gamma radiation i think

light + sound could be something such as a “show” or “concert” magic though that’s a bit vague
