I think I’ve said it a bunch of times before (maybe not as much as the number of times I’ve ranted about cruddy game mechanics), but I plan to go into video game design as a career, and in my spare time, I like coming up with ideas for games. Are most of those ideas going to be a reality? Haha, no. There are some that I want to finish at some point, though, like this one.
The general premise is combining AA/WoM/AO and bullet hells such as Nuclear Throne, Enter the Gungeon, and Touhou; it’s fitting that AO is a huge inspiration, since WoM was what actually got me into writing characters and stories.
Water Magic and some Spells
Originally I wanted to lean more into the WoM/AO inspiration, so some spells were instead hitscan projectiles, like Water Beam. W.Beam would’ve evolved into a spell that would launch small lasers that would recoil off of where the beam landed before turning to collide with the main beam’s impact zone.
Inventory Menu Concept (sorry about the lighting)
Notes
- Inventory functions similarly to AO, with five (maybe?) Rarities for Items, as well as a “Unique” rarity for stuff like boss drops. I think boss drops would be limited to those found in side content, and not from story enemies.
- Limited to four equips; only one “Accessory” slot for anything that doesn’t resemble armor. The Stats box above the Accessory slot could be clicked to change to vanity equips.
- Weapons and Potions would be equipped like armor.
- Name consists of a first and last name; picked from a preset list or typed in manually.
- Species name (Kobold, in this case) could be hovered over to show Species stats and traits.
- Darkness Magic (leftmost) is the file’s Base Magic in this example; it can’t be changed, but gives a unique benefit to the player in return. Magic could be clicked to view Spells and Stats.
Weapons Concept
If this sounds familiar, than it’s because I actually asked about potential weapons to include in some Loki person’s thread.
Base Magic Effects
Even though each Magic would have unique spells, I wanted to make sure that there’d be a little more differentiation between them, since each one will have at least a couple of spells similar to others (i.e. Each Magic starts with a basic Blast spell that turns into an Animal-Shaped Blast at Tier 10).
