Vetex has just started progress of what is likely to be the largest update thus far. To give some food for thought on what the dark sea could have, I cooked up a random list of suggestions pertaining to the dark sea

You can fish up sea monsters

Self-explanatory, you should be able to fish up sea monsters. Near the “start” of the dark sea, you should only be able to fish up low-tier sea monsters like poison jaws and other things on the aberrant tier, but as you go deeper into the dark sea, so should the level of sea monster you should be able to fish up higher-tier sea monsters.

Misc.

  • There should be a bait added, perhaps only findable in dark sea chests/ crates that allow you to attach it to your fishing rod to fish up low-tier sea monsters/ sharks in the war seas

  • The chance to fish up a sea monster in the dark sea should be relatively low, to prevent players from being spammed while just trying to fish (maybe the deeper you go, the higher the chance?)

Seamarks

The dark sea will be completely randomly generated. This is good as it heavily promotes replayability. Seamarks are preset islands that will always spawn in a “position” in the dark sea. They could tie in with major quests/ the storyline

Misc.

  • Finding all the Seamarks should give you a badge

Diving Spot: Nest

With the addition of the dark sea, it is very likely that Vetex and the builders are planning out randomly generated diving spots in the dark sea. A “Nest” Diving spot is a type of diving spot that has sea monster eggs. These eggs are guarded by an ABUNDANCE of these types of sea monsters, making them extremely challenging to reach. The eggs sell for a high amount, and could also perhaps be put in the Fish tank found in the captain’s quarters to hatch.

A concept model I made for an Obulus nest

A concept model I made for a White Eyes nest

Misc.

  • Only a small amount of the eggs shown should actually be lootable, as the eggs would sell for a good amount (and some could potentially be reagents(?))

  • The higher-tier the sea monster, the crazier the structures for the sea monsters would be

  • Each sea monster should have 2-3 different spawning structures, for variety

Passive Ships

More like a concept that should already exist in the game and not exclusively in the dark sea. Passive pirate ships that won’t instantly attack you should spawn with NPCs that may have some dialogue pertaining to the dark sea and the such. Not much else to say here

Crew Sanity

If you go too far into the dark sea, your entire crew (deckhand, generic crew, etc.) May not listen to you commands or have more “insane” text if you go deep into the dark sea

Lost Castaways

Castaways in the dark sea, They offer better rewards than normal castaways. The main goal is to get the out of the dark sea and onto any island. This could pose a threat as maybe deeper into the dark sea they could attack you, trying to take over your ship(?)

So yeah, those were a small list of possible ideas for the dark sea ideas. Please provide feedback on any ideas you may like/ dislike :+1:

Rest of the suggestions are pretty average but that nest one is awesome. I feel as though that you should be able to take as many as you want (aka all) but you are targetted for that specific sea monster more and more when you have more and more eggs.

The whole egg hatching in fish tank is awesome though and fits with fish tanks perfectly

Death Curse Easter Egg before Morden gets it, located in the exact place written in his journal, gives you Time Paradox Badge, still unobtainable to players

I like this one quite a lot, it could add a really dangerous horror element of the dark sea. The castaway potentially turning into an illusion that could junpscare the player and attack their ship if they get too close sounds amazing and I’m all for it. Wouldn’t it be even more awesome if there was an advanced obolus or something like it that used its lure to look exactly like a castaway or something harmless, and then attack you with a loud shriek? Cool stuff.

I feel like vetex should massively improve the horror aspect of insanity before releasing dark sea, simply because they aren’t scary at all. They’re annoying. I should be shitting my PANTS when I enter the deep parts of the dark sea. I like these ideas.

this has my full approval

a way to respawn in the dark sea
by that mean when you die you get respawned somewhere random in the dark sea and have to find your way out also you compass is gone and your map good luck~

ok a realer point a way to respawn in the dark sea if you are in a party if someone dies in the dark sea it’s going to suck for the whole party or the guy that died because one the guy is going to have to watch his team have fun and get loot while he is stuck back at spawn or the whole trip has to stop and come because of 1 single guy

modeling is hard :frowning:

bro EXACTLY ROBLOX BUILDING IS SO HARD

like god half the reason I procrastinate on building something is how TERRIBLE roblox building is

anyways, to comment on the actual suggestion: somehow I’m not too sure that we’ll get diving points in the dark sea.

this is because as someone who has both collected toxic seawater and has done seafloor diving points, it would be WAY too horrifying to go down into the dark sea’s seafloor, considering it’s probably going to be even deeper.

also, how would we even notice one in the dark sea isn’t it like dark and also the rough sea effect displays on top of the sea

I don’t see this as a bad thing, having the dark sea be terrifying is a nice way to build immersion

I like all of these ideas. An addition to the passive ships: I think there should be two types: Explorers and insane ships. Explorers are ships who are exploring the dark sea. They are willing to trade valuable resources, mainly stuff that is helpful for your journey and not loot. You can also try and rob them as a bad rep. Insane ships are ships with crews that have gone completely insane. They are like pirates but worse and weird, with attacks that have been chaotically imbued with trace magic. I think insane ships would be more fitting since pirates have no reason to be in the dark sea, there are less involuntary customers after all.

I’d assume that the sturctures would be pointing out, like the ones that you normally find. The dark sea is supposed to be the largest sea taking up basically 95% of the AO world so i’d assume there is almost no sea floor, or if there is one you would have to swim down for MINUTES, though maybe on the “closer” side of the dark sea or near some islands you would be able to find some seafloor

I think it would kind of make sense if they were harder to spot, especially the deeper you go considering the Dark sea isn’t supposed to be a spot to just get the best loot in the game, but an actual challenge, as for spotting them it would make sense to be some sort of dark spot on the surface of the water, similar to the indicators that are already in the war seas

fair enough

still completely and absurdly horrifying to have to sink like 20 seconds down in the dark sea

I made a new nest concept/ model for White eyes, check it out :+1:

This looks pretty good. Imo the deep parts of the dark sea should get an unfightable sea monster that we should try to avoid at all costs
